A pretty decent pic. You were able to easily capture the image or pretty much the essence of the character. From a small thumbnail, you can easily tell that it is Afro Samurai. The dark colors help reflect the tone and mood of the character and the series as a whole. Your shading and lighting is also pretty good.
Now, something that needs work on is the dimension of the character. The shading and folds help add some dimension, but is a bit more that can be done. I would suggest making the folds around the character a little rounder at the edges, to make it look as if you could see around the character. Make certain details also more curved, such as the belt line of the pants. Because it's just plain straight, it looks as if it were paper, rather than something with more dimension.
Other than that, this is still a pretty good picture.

Heya! Coming in from
Wow, this is a cool concept! I really like it when people combine different elements and create new characters that have details from different cultures and sources. And I think your mix-up works nicely. It has the clear Asian vibe to it, but still a clear hints towards African heritage. The cigarette is a fun color point.
A few points of the art itself. The dark scene works nicely with the character and I like that you’ve kept the color palette very simple. However – the background almost swallows the character into it and it’s partly very hard to tell him apart from the background. This could be easily fixed with some highlights especially on his left side – they could even be colored to bring in some feel of atmosphere. The cropping also works, even if the character is not centered, you’ve placed just enough space on the right side – however you’ve almost cropped off his toe!
Another thing is the folding on his clothes. Anatomy, facial features and proportions look great here – but the clothing looks a bit odd. I suppose they are supposed to be wrinkled and worn, but the lines on the shirt look more like a pattern than folding. I’d suggest finding a good reference picture for the fabric and paying attention of the placing of the folds – which is usually around joints.

thanks for the tips!!! i agree the backdrop is too dark, on the edits ive lighten the backdrop and tried different brighter ones. and yea i know i have the croppping near the foot really close but that was on purpose. I didnt want a large gap near the bottom but maybe it is a bit to close.
and also the character is not centered on purpose, because there is a pendant on the sword handle on the right side. so didnt want to crop it off.

Yey! I see another Afro Samurai lover! It's so rare to see his recent arts around here! true cooly your art! I just think a background of another color would give a little more prominence to the work in the center. 6 (o ° u ° o

Thanks! And that's a good idea I think I will go with a more colorful or at least lighter background. The darkness of the background isn't helping the character stand out very well.

Here from ProjectComment with a few quick suggestions.
Usually darker skin tones are a lot more saturated than lighter ones, so don’t be very afraid to up that saturation a bit, at first I thought he was covered in ash because of the desaturation. Usually adding reds also bring the liveliness of the person, but maybe you were going for a more grim look, in that specific case I don’t know what I would do, since I usually work with more saturated shadows instead of more grey ones.
Other than that this looks pretty cool overall..

Thanks for your suggestions! I think I will try increasing the saturation on some parts. And yeah I was think adding more of a reddish tone to the skin to make it pop more. But I wasn't sure because all the art I've seen of this character is very greyish based with not much color or very color neutral. Usually have no variation to the skin tone. But I will try some reds.

Glad I kinda helped. But yeah, skin tones become tricky when the palette you are working with is really desaturated.
