Personality: Upon meeting him for the first time, one would generally be under the impression that Vivi is a whimsical, cheerful, and utterly useless man. He seems to enjoy being in the wrong place at the wrong time, poking his nose in other's business, and generally making a nuisance of himself. Vivi has an odd sense of humor that's sometimes crude and likes to tease others, especially if he's fond of them or finds them pleasing to the eye. Despite this childish behavior, he's generally patient and resourceful, assessing situations before acting, and if asked he will freely give his opinion without holding anything back. He's perceptive and intelligent and often sees through to the heart of things.

For such an otherwise lively person, Vivi is quite lazy and directionless. He's a talented inventor, but he'd rather spend his time sitting or laying about, accomplishing his paltry tradework without getting out of bed. However, there are hints that his health is quite poor. When not occupied or in the thick of things, he tends to fall into deranged but harmless fits, going days without sleeping or eating, pacing and muttering to himself. Vivi absolutely refuses to talk about himself or explain his behavior. When pressed, he’s ready with a lie, a silly half-truth or a change of subject.

History:

Vivi was an only child born into an apothecary family who worked closely with the Queen's Assassins in Reluir. Upon learning the boy had no special talent to elevate himself to a position in the guild proper, Vivi's father taught him herbology and medicine, and later, the art of poison-making.

Unbeknownst to his father, Vivi had a sharp mind, and was very capable of making something more of himself. He'd hidden his abilities with a dutifully bowed head and busy hands, knowing he'd be sent away from his mother. She'd become ill over time creating one of their more dangerous poisons, before the guild had known the risks, and was bedridden and half-mad. Vivi spent his free time tinkering and inventing toys by candlelight at her bedside to amuse her. His mother had passed on her good humor to her son, and in her more lucid moments it was no hardship to pretend his efforts made her feel better than the medicines he and his father prepared for her.

After she passed, Vivi finally heeded his father and attempted more involvement with the Assassins. Of course, no one wanted an older, untried trainee underfoot, but his father knew a woman named Hariot who sought a "protégé". In reality, the shrewd but ageing assassin was after any advantage she could get amongst the nobles vying for power under the Queen's nose, and Vivi was a perfect scapegoat for her schemes. When she asked him to replicate the same poison that had killed his mother, he obliged unquestioningly, believing it was a test of his loyalty to her.

Inevitably, there was a shift in power amongst the noble houses and one of Hariot's "close friends" was assassinated shortly thereafter. Hariot had not been privy to the knowledge that that particular poison had fallen out of favor with the more active branches of the Queen's Assassins, and it was quickly identified. Scrutiny fell to Vivi's father, the only apothecary on record who still knew the secret to creating it, and Vivi himself, the apothecary's odd son with odder ideas and inventions. Vivi fled Reluir, hoping that abandoning his name and the place he'd only halfheartedly wanted amongst the Assassins would prove that neither of them had anything to gain in the chaos. He doesn't dare return to the city of the dark elves, too afraid to face Hariot or take responsibility for what may have happened to his father in his absence.

He makes a meek living, falling back on the skills he taught himself as a child and the less attention-drawing of the potion-making arts. Regrettably, Hariot's lessons are never too far from his mind, and he's had to defend himself more than once on the road. Burned out from trusting the wrong people and with misgivings about the "musty" ways of the Assassins, he has fewer illusions about dark elf superiority and is relatively open-minded about other races. Vivi doesn't regret his "fall from grace" and has embraced the easy life of a wanderer, where he's not responsible for anyone's life... save the ones he takes with the gun strapped to his back.

Additional info:
- He is totally suffering from poisoning (it's not really subtle tho)
- Makes up strange diminutive nicknames for people - ex., Amelie Moriarty is his "little thimble".
- Perhaps unusually for a dark elf, he prefers the background hum of machinery and crowds to the quiet of nature, and tends to stick closely to industrial cities.
- Carries his enormous flintlock double barrel shotgun"Brand" everywhere. The strange design is Vivi's attempt to set it apart from the firearms Hariot trained him with. He finds more run-of-the-mill firearms "distasteful" while considering his own a "work of art". Only rarely does Vivi talk up his inventions, so it's obvious that it's quite dear to him.
