Description
Michelle Pfeiffer in her iconic (I'd say it's iconic) Catwoman costume from "Batman Returns." Graphite and Prismacolor Ebony pencil on 9" x 12" smooth bristol board. Drawn from a photo I found online. I think it's an actual still from the film, but it may be a promotional thing. It's been many years since I've watched it.

The costume was a bit more difficult than I anticipated. The contrast between the very dark material and very light colored stitches made it tricky I think. I was on the fence about adding a background. It was the last thing I did. I strongly considered keeping it blank but decided to go another direction. The photo reference has out of focus blinds in the background. I initially wanted to go with really loose pencil sketch lines to mimic that blinds thinking that it would be a good contrast to the detailed and blended pencils. It just didn't seem to work the way I had hoped so I did a bit of a pivot and created something a bit more true to the source material.
