Description Phew, eventually I finished this!
This is supposed to be a coconut (outside) and cherry (inside) cake, but you can easily change "flavours" by using different colors

It came out a little longer than I planned, but I hope everything is clear and understandable. If you have any question or doubt, feel free to ask

MM It... looks... YUMMY ♥
May I ask... can I use clear nail polish instead of glaze, or will it ruin the clay?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thinkpastel In reply to HeavenlySheep [2011-02-27 15:47:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh no, I wouldn't really suggest you to use nail polish on polymer clay .. I tried to, and it was a mess
For some reason, nail polish makes clay extremely sticky - like if you spread your clay with honey or something . It's some sort of chemical reaction, I guess

HeavenlySheep In reply to thinkpastel [2011-02-28 02:56:03 +0000 UTC]

ehehe... I went ahead of myself and painted something with clear polish.
It remained normal-looking (this was after I baked it)... maybe it varies on the brand...?

thinkpastel In reply to HeavenlySheep [2011-03-06 11:28:17 +0000 UTC]

Phew, I'm glad it worked! I don't know if it depends on the brand of clay/nail polish.. only tried to do it once and never again
Back at that time I did some online research and everyone who tried (and failed) was using Fimo soft, so maybe that's it? Who knows

idk if anyone else noticed but the red filling of the cake matches your nails

Rooncakes [2010-10-07 18:07:54 +0000 UTC]

very nice tutorial! I'm gonna try to follow it this weekend and see what I make :> Can I ask, would gloss glaze work as well as varnish? And why dont you gloss/varnish the whole thing, just the icing? O: isn't it bad to leave parts of it unglazed?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thinkpastel In reply to Rooncakes [2010-10-09 13:34:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh I'm sorry, what do you mean exactly by "gloss glaze"? All I can tell you is to make sure that the varnish you're using is water or alcohol based, other kind of varnishes might have bad chemical reactions with polymer clay.
As for the other thing, is not really a problem to leave some parts unglazed - varnish is always optional, you're not forced to glaze all of your clay creations
For this specific charm, I didn't glaze the inside since I thought it looks more realistic if it's matte - it's really up to you anyhow!
