Mulan’s Pokemon Team

Gyarados is the best dragon-like Pokemon choice for Mulan for it is one of the few Pokemons that resemble the Chinese type of Dragon and not the Arthurian. Mulan’s Gyarados is the rare red type as it is inspired by her guardian dragon “Mushu”.

Kricketot on the other hand is the counter-part of Mulan’s lucky cricket, “Cri-kee”.

Medicham is a clear representation of Mulan’s personality and skills. Just like Mulan, Medicham is peaceful, soft and calm-looking on the outside… but a fighting spirit burns within. Mulan might have learned the basics of Martial Arts from Medicham itself.

Umbreon and Ditto are both personification of certain songs in the Movie. Umbreon is derived from the lyric phrase “the dark side of the moon”, while Ditto relates to the song “Reflection”.

Lastly, Shedinja resembles an old ghost type Pokemon that mirrors Mulan’s relationship towards her ancestors. It relates to the notion that Mulan’s dead ancestors continue to guide her despite the absence of their physical being, hence in the form of ghosts and spirit.
