Or, if you're a history nut, maybe you're thinking: "Man, she really botched that 19th century German hussar's uniform."

At any rate here they are, the unwitting progenitors of a future feathered fascist. I haven't settled on a name for his mother, but I think Valdemar suits the father. It means "Famous ruler." You might mistake him for a kaiser with a name like that but, like Klaus, he is naught but a humble general/war hero. With a fortune. And a pedigree that actually could land him on the throne if enough higher ups suddenly dropped dead from an unexpected case of Boomheadshot-itus Shanghai Knights style, but don't hold your breath.

Didn't know Klaus was an aristocrat, did you?... Wait, you did? Oh... well, what gave it away? The clothes? The furniture?... It's because he raises his pinky talon when he drinks, isn't it?

Valdemar may be the spitting image of his son, but personality wise they share few similarities. Klaus is more like his mother: short fuse, outspoken, liable to burst into a seemingly well-rehearsed song with all the confidence of a Disney character upon hearing a favorite tune. Valdemar in sharp contrast is silent when not barking orders and possesses all the emotional intelligence and complexity of a brick wall. Whatever romantic bone he may or may not have at one point had in his body was probably shattered by a musket ball in the heat of battle long, long ago. One of the few traits Valdemar does share with Klaus is his asexuality. The generation gap is another barrier, gryphons (in my fantasyverse) mature about as quickly as humans but, after their 25th-26th year, Father Time is very generous. I'd say Klaus' mother is about 19 or 20 here. Meanwhile, Valdemar is over a century his wife's senior and not getting any younger. It's a verdammt Christmas miracle these two ever managed to reproduce. And even more impressive that they managed to raise a mentally stable chi-- oh, wait...
