Description
This is the hood I just made based on Altair's costume from Assassin's Creed. Props to the artistic team at Ubisoft for a cool design. I don't think I did the hood justice, but after all, this was my first real sewing project. Excuses aside, it was a challenge to make but also a lot of fun. Just make a simple query if you wonder anything else related to construction or the like.

Q: Can I have the pattern

A: In short, no. I had no pattern so if you want to make a hood you'll end up creating the pattern yourself. I managed to come up with a manageable pattern after a lot of trial and error. However, the pattern was specifically meant for my proportions, and it was made of material that I integrated into the hood. I suppose if someone were to pay me a lot of money I could just take the hood apart and send the pieces to them. Barring that, get a lot of good reference pictures off the internet of the hood itself, and look at those often during construction. One thing I learned was that you shouldn't settle for anything less than perfect. At times I had stitched two pieces together, and the hood just didn't look right and I was really tempted to just leave it because I thought I couldn't do any better, but I did revise it, and it turned out much better looking. And like I said, it took me a lot of trial and error, which is how I teach myself how to do projects like this, so I'm not sure what your way of learning is but expect plenty of trial and error.

Q: How difficult was it to make?

A: I don't know if I can accurately answer this question regarding the difficulty of it's construction. For me, it took a lot of trial and error, and I even had several different mock ups. I don't know how much sewing experience you have, but I didn't really have any before this. If you do have experience you'll be in good shape, but if you don't, know that it can be done. I would say from thinking about it, that Altair's hood is probably one of the hardest pieces to make out of any article of clothing due to it's three dimensional shape.

Q: What material did you use?

A: All I used were a couple of old sheets and felt. I layered the cloth so that the sheet is on the outside, felt on the inside. I did that to give it a heavier look, but still have the sheet texture on the outside. (budget for this hood was $0) Then I applied some secret aging techniques so it doesn't look like a bright white sheet.

Q: How did you make the point of the hood?

A: Remember that it's not a 2D object. Mine is just two layers of sheet, so it doesn't have to be all that thick, but I integrated it as part of the front strip of cloth. Also, the front strip of cloth forms an angle, rather than being a straight strip.
