Now that I've read this, I respect you even more as a human being, not just as a DA user. You took in a baby animal that you had no responsibility for, all for him just because he had a low rate of survival.

I consider myself to be a fairly strong guy, I'm a builder so it's par for the course you might say....however when it comes to animals it's a different story. As soon as I saw this little guy I clicked the link to read the 'story', I know it must be a very common occurrence, a little animal struggling for survival but it always turns me into a wreck.....I'm still wiping the tears away. I'm so glad you tried to help him, too many people just don't care, sometimes of course there is nothing we can do to help but it's ALWAYS worth trying. Many years ago we noticed a friends German Shepherd was looking quite ill to us so we stuck our noses in and demanded she be left at our house so we could care for her, it turned out she was pregnant with six pups and wasn't being fed properly hence her poor state. We took her to our vets straight away and she was cared for by us as though she was Royalty. She eventually had six gorgeous little fluffy pups, five girls and one boy, we had to bottle feed them all because the mother was too weak to support them, just not enough milk. We bought the finest correct puppy milk from the vets, the smallest feeding bottles we could find and set about hand feeding every pup, one tried hard to resist but it was a loosing battle for her....she got fat just like her brother and sisters did. We located VERY nice homes for them (after vetting the future owners of course) all, well all except one, we decided to keep the male and he lived with us his whole life, he was a huge animal but so very gentle and loved to be close to us, I think because he was handled from birth. We also kept track of the sisters so we would know that they were in good shape. It really took a little bit of effort from start to finish, time and money to do it but I wouldn't have had it any other way, a little kindness goes a long long way and the love you show animals comes back to you tenfold.

I hope it's still around! I have rescued sick ones like that before and none have made it past a couple of months, as they were in worse shape than I thought, sadly I had to bury them, one had to be put down, I pray that ever animal get what it needs!

I'm sure she did. Mama cats in our barn feed kittens that aren't theirs. Just for future reference, bottles aren't the best way to feed very young kittens. We always used kitten milk formula and an eyedropper or syringe, giving them a few drops at a time.

I hope that mother cat wasn't hungry. There are some times when a (young) adult cat eats newly-born kittens if they're too hungry. They can even eat their own kittens after pregnancy. I've actually seen it happen with my own cat so I'm kinda worried about that cute little one in the photo.
Currently, my momma cat only has 1 kitten when it should have been 3. I was away for 2 days and I didn't have time to feed my momma cat. She was probably hungry after birth and I saw her eat her kitten when I returned. I didn't see what happened to the other kitten and I'm not sure if Momma ate it or it just evaporated.

O_O
Shouldn't making sure your cat has food/water/a caretaker when you're gone be your #1 priority?

Aww... well I hope he lived. : )
mother cats can take care of other kittens even though it's not their kitten, even mother dogs can take kittens with them. It happened with my dog where she took care of a little kitten in our backyard, when I found out about it, it was just so cute and the kitten was surely thinking the dog is her mother.
(I couldn't believe it myself too) seems that the kitten was my cat's kitty but the mother cat died...

Most kittens at that age have to be fed via syringe however most of them at that age can't tolerate cow's milk. And if the other cat took him and ran away you can almost guarantee he survived :3

I have a REALLY soft spot in my heart for tabbies, I've had three, and they have all been fighters. Bilbo, the first one, was a really strong, dominant cat who thought I was his property, so he slept on my face sometimes haha. Salpor, the second one, was only 1 month old and I had to teach him to leak the milk plate, he was trying to suck it always, but he adapted quickly and had such a temper that only I could carry him in my arms, probably because he was too young when he was weaned, but the lady who owned the mother just wanted to get rid of the kittens . I chose him out of the litter because my cousin called me to describe the kittens, and I couldn't decide, then he screamed so loud... then I told her "that's the one. Benito, the one I live with now, is so sweet and gentle. He was approximately 3 months old and we found him in a gutter, all skin, bones and fleas. He's big and fat now, and the sweetest cat ever.
You have a huge heart, I bet momma cat made her best too.

She probably did take care of him. If she didn't want to, she would've let you know right then and there. Mother cats are generally protective of kits, even ones that aren't their own.

I did the same thing once with a bird I found caught in a giant spiderweb (it was a big web and a small bird). I gave it to some people who were going to take care of it, but i don't know if it ever made it. Good luck to the kitten, wherever it is!

Usually if there was something wrong with the kitten, momma kitty would ignore the kitten and run away from it. Sounds like momma kitty found her new baby <3
I had I take care of a bunch of sick kittens once.. Not even two days old. They were sick and mom kitty wouldn't want to go near them. She sniffed them and ran, but me owed and searched my room like they were hiding when they were right under her nose.
Sadly 5 days later I was left with one struggling kitten who eventually let go of life. I was so devistated. But it really sounds like your kitten got a second.. Or should I say third chance at living <3
