Thrushwing woke up suddenly to the sound of warriors chanting.

"We shall win! HillClan shall pay!"

This continued on for a little bit, shaking Thrushwing back into reality. She slowly got up and did a quick stretch, showing her lean and strong muscles.

"I must prepare herbs for everyone," The pale black she cat muttered to herself, "Or we will loose the battle."

Thrushwing gathered a bundle of beech leaves and started to take out berries and leaves from her shelves.

They soon piled up beside her, and once she was finished, she started making the battle remedies.

"Cobweb for bleeding, comfrey for bones, nettle for swelling, thyme for shock..." The list continued on as Thrushwing gathered more and more things.

Then she stopped after a pile of herbs was the size of a kit. She was done.

The pale black she cat padded out of the medicine cat den, looking at all of the warriors in the moonlight. Thrushwing's fur shone silver, catching a few cats' eyes.

"Riverwing." Thrushwing stopped beside the deputy, nudging him softly to get his attention.

The muscular warrior looked at her, his blue eyes filled with battle. "Yes?"

"Can you send a few warriors at a time to my den so they can eat their herbs, and then they can get ready for battle?"

"Yes, I can. It is my job as deputy to do so." Riverwing padded away to a group of chanting warriors.

Thrushwing quickly padded back to her den, getting ready for the groups of cats. Honeyleaf, Mottledsnow, and Riverwing himself came in.

"We need herbs to fight well." Mottledsnow said.

The medicine cat pushed three bundles of herbs to the cats, watching their muzzle contort in the bitterness. "Forgot the taste?" Thrushwing purred.

As the group left, Thrushwing called Riverwing. "So few? I expected more, we don't have a lot of time." The pale black she cat flicked her tail impaciently.

Riverwing dipped his head. "Sorry Thrushwing, I will get more."

Soon enough, every single warrior participating in the battle had eaten the sour herbs. Thrushwing followed the last group out to see Shrewstar about to talk.

"Honeyleaf, you will lead Mottledsnow, Echoclaw, Mouseheart, Redfox, Doveleap, and Dogtooth straight to the border." The warriors gathered up and yowled together in pride, ready for the battle.

"I will come with Riverwing, Otterclaw, Birdfeather, Badgerpaw, Snowleaf, Streamheart, and Thornbush to the camp. We will wait on Honeyleaf's signal." More warriors yowled in pride, but Thrushwing felt alone.

"What about me? Shall I stay or go?" Shrewstar looked at Thrushwing for a little bit, his head full of thought.

"Thrushwing, as our only medicine cat, you should stay. The clan cannot risk you leaving and never coming back."

Thrushwing blinked, staring at the leader. He never talks this smart!

"So, inbetween the camp and the border with HillClan, Lightningpaw and Rosestorm will be there to take the wounded and send messages to and from the battle." Shrewstar nodded his head at the apprentice and his mentor.

"To the battle!" Shrewstar yowled into the night air. ForestClan warriors mimicked his battle cry.

The warriors began to leave, some staying to protect the camp. But one cry stopped everyone in their tracks.

"Wait! Silverwind is having her kits!"

Thrushwing turned suddenly, extremely scared. The kits were a whole moon early. It was likely the kits would die.

A few warriors grumbled, digging the earth furiously to go on with the battle. Shrewstar yowled at Thrushwing before leading the warriors away.

"Take care of her Thrushwing, and get someone to help you!"

The ForestClan battle patrol raced into the forest, the gorse tunnel swallowing them.

While Thrushwing padded quickly to the nursery, she looked up at Silverpelt.

"Please have these kits survive!"
