Also, I don't know if I mentioned this before, but the background is the sky of another world, and there are clouds. It's more abstract really...

But he IS in the appropriate environment for his kind for the contest! Dragons are in the air! D:

The world is vast, the world is one, and the world is all-consuming.

Vast colors accross blue oceans. Clouds floating in crystal blue pools of sky. Gale winds dancing with leaves across a grassy plain.

Worlds upon worlds unfold.

When one has wings, one has freedom. The earth releases the heart, and as the bounds break, the sky gives an ever satisfying store of energy and love.

Unravaged by time, one could do many things, travel to many places.

Upon the earth, hoofs rarely drum- for what is the point when soft feathers caress the sky in a never-ending flight? What could one do if one could fly effortlessly along the silky ocean of the sky?

Never return to the ground.

The skies hold secrets that many seek. The birds know of it only; for only they can fly so high.

Hidden beyond the highest point of the sky are treasures most unfathomable.

Oh god. This took forever!

Getting a picture of this piece was hard. It's HUUUGE. Therefore I need a camera, one of the items i do not have. So...lots of begging and borrowing!

Mmm, and yet this camera blurred his face. DDDX I'll try to get a better picture of it.

This took me over 15 hours to do. ffff. talk about detail!

I drew the subject on normal drawing paper, then cut him out, then painted a wonderful background using watercolors, alcohol, and salt (<3!), and then put him on it!

And it was all 100% hard-workin' traditional. <3

This is Fathom, my rainbow zebra dragon. I've always wanted to have one of those.

His story is interesting.

His mother was a zebra, and his father was a dragon (his mother was NOT raped, she fell in love with daddy D:< ). His father was killed in battle or something. Yep.
When his mother gave birth to him, he looked like a normal zebra, save his horns and long tail.
So one stormy day he and his mother walk down to a small, sandy beach and Fathom rolls around in the sand. He loves the ocean, after all.
On their way back, they got caught in the middle of an argument between a storm nymph and an earth elf. The storm nymph threw a bolt of lightning at the elf, who dodged the attack.

It instead struck Fathom and his mother, who were both walking on a strip of sand.

His mother was killed instantly, but Fathom was covered in sand, and a rare phenomenon occured that saved his life.

Occasionally, when lightning hits sand, it creates a special type of glass upon impact.

Such happened to Fathom when he was struck, and turned his bones to glass.

Granted, they were still bones, so they retained their sturdiness, but glass they were. Fathom's muscles and flesh were destroyed in the process, and all that was left was a skeletal zebra.

Somehow he had absorbed one of the two aspects of lightning; pure energy (light).

Using his new powers, he recreated his muscular system and stripes, but now they glow with the different hues of light.

He already controlled air (or wind), being part dragon, and he gained the elements of light and earth (though not so much earth...he's weaker in that element.)

He also became known as the being of Logic. His intellegence and sharp mind became respected across all worlds.

He can occasionally teleport within a world or to other worlds, but that takes him a lot of energy.

As the poem above states, he never touches the ground. He had always loved the sky, and without any friends or family upon the earth to bind him, he broke free of the earth and flew into the sky and hasn't touched the soil of any world since.

He also has somewhat photosynthetic powers; he can absorb light from any sun, but he can consume the raw energy as food.

Despite his un-need to eat, he still loves sugar. (I promise he's not part plant, though.) In fact, he's addicted to it. In fact, he's addicted to anything sweet. Yay for sweet tooths! <3

DANG. Lotsa stuff!

Anywho, I'll be taking some detailed shots of different parts of him. I'll try to get a better picture of him, but for now, this file will have to do.
