Description This guy I drew during school after going "I don't have a goo monster yet" and getting the idea for him. This idea hit me like a ton of bricks, I wrote a story too. It's the first "Subject" story that follows the pattern I'm going to use from now on. The style is similar to the SCP stories (which I still haven't read, I've just been told that by my beta readers). Masks Subject Number is 101 (the Subject Number is an ID code assigned to these monsters, it's random), which is one of my favorite numbers. That's right. I love Masks enough to give him one of MY numbers! (and yes, those skin-colored masks on its body are made of flesh )

I challenged my party's DM to make a D&D monster out of Masks. He did and it's rather lethal, although he changed some things up and gave it some different abilities, but I forgive the DM. Always forgive the DM

COMBAT

In combat, Masks simply tries to engulf as many creatures as possible and then lets its marrow acid dissolve their bodies while Masks assaults any foes it did not engulf. Masks will also attempt ambushes and trickery using its emulate voice ability to lure potential targets within reach.
Emulate Voice (Su): Masks can perfectly mimic the voice of the last person it killed. It commonly uses this ability to lure unknowing victims.
Engulf (Ex): Although Masks moves slowly it can simply mow down Medium or smaller creatures as a standard action. Masks merely has to move over the opponents, affecting as many as it can cover. Opponents can make attacks of opportunity against Masks, but if they do they are not entitled to a reflex save. Those who did not attempt attacks of opportunity must succeed on a DC 25 Reflex save or be engulfed; on a success they are pushed back or aside (Opponent's choice) as Masks moves forward. Engulfed creatures are subject to Masks' marrow acid once every round and are considered grappled and trapped within its body.
Horrific Visage (Su): Masks can manipulate its various macabre masks to imitate loved ones and long lost friends. Anyone who looks upon Masks must succeed on a DC 23 will save or be paralyzed for 1d4 rounds. This is a mind effecting effect.
Marrow Acid (Ex): Masks produces a special acid that dissolves only the bones of organic creatures. Any creature struck by Masks' slam attack must make a DC 17 reflex save or take 2d6 Strength damage from the acid being absorbed into their body and dissolving their bones. The save DC's are Constitution based.

Masks is free to use as a home-brew monster to terrorize your players with. Just tell me (and, if you want, provide a transcript of the battle)

It was a kick-ass fight. My character is an EP (energy projector) and our Martial Artist/Brick is part Deep One and hates it. He has a Katana and laser guns.

So he's like the protagonist of A Shadow over Innsmouth....only can actually do things to protect himself.

I would just specialize in heavy automatic weapons and flame/acidic bombardment devices. Keep them far away and burn away their "unnatural armor".

We had a campaign where we found a portable experimental rail gun. That was fun.....every other round. [link]

Except he's green. And I think he's also sleeping in my character's car, as he's kinda homeless.

Reload time?

Yeah. The rail gun was decent for taking down larger mythos creatures....or buying us enough time to escape into a sewer about 100ft away while it raged out on the local area.

Tidal-Fox101 In reply to o-FiveAsOne-o [2013-06-12 18:25:39 +0000 UTC]

I'm a fan of Gatling guns and Mini guns myself, just due to sheer volume of bullets, but a rail gun seems just so badass.

'Course, I only like guns in video games and tabletop rpgs. In real life, I don't ever want one.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

o-FiveAsOne-o In reply to Tidal-Fox101 [2013-06-12 18:30:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Gatlings and Minis are good....but it's like striking a Dark Young or a Star Spawn with like.....20-30 1's....lol.

The railgun can go through a considerable amount of DR. Then, acidic and pyrotechnics can also help lower AC by dissolving/burning away their "unnatural armor".

Well, you give me anything that shoots flame and I go complete psycho. The DM for the campaign I'm currently doing modded a Psyonic class to work with arcane magic, just for me. I'm one of the weakest members, but I make up for it with spunk and the fact that in a few levels I will be able to (rules as written) set fire on fire.

o-FiveAsOne-o In reply to Tidal-Fox101 [2013-06-12 19:28:57 +0000 UTC]

I'm...not sure what that means, unless you are just an extremely volatile pyrokineticist.

Arcane Magic is kinda useless in our campaign (we are fighting the Magic Tyrant....:3), so we have to rely on our skills and weapons.

*psionics

And, you'd be a pyromancer if you are using incantations and the like.

That's the term I'm using for myself. Our DM made an official name for it, but I ignore it and say pyromancer.
