es is weit entfernt davon perfekt zu sein. aber... wie du siehst sind es die kleinen details die solche dinge glaubwΓΌrdiger erscheinen lassen. wie eben die vΓΆgel.

Sweet. I had to do something along the same lines recently for my After Effects class.

Whoa! I would love to know how you did this! Then I might stand a chance of doing something similar with my fantasy world...

Β‘Nice work! I just have a suggestion/thought for you. I might be wrong, and I'll be interested in knowing if you already tried it, and how it worked: I think that you could get much more depth by placing the back layers of the matte much further away (eg. the sky further from the mountain range, and several layers of mountains -a couple maybe-). Right now it still feels a bit too flat to me.

that would have meant to extend the painting elements a lot more. i didn't have had the time and ambition to do so. since i though the parallax effect worked good enough for me. but yes it would have been a bit more depth if i would have used a farther distance between the layers.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean with "extend the painting elements"? You mean in size, resolution, abundance of elements...?
Hope I'm not bothering you with my questions. I'm a digital compositor and director of my own little films, and even though I haven't directly worked on complex 3D matte paintings, i'm highly interested in that aspect of the work for future development.

Ok, I understand. Thanks for taking the time to explain. So you did the painting first as a pure 2D, and then decomposed it in layers for 3D. It works perfectly well that way then, no need for more extra work.
I thought you had planned it as a 3D paint from the beginning, and that way you could make rough sketches of the layers and then know (after cam movement is done) what parts of each layer need to be worked. Ever thought about doing that, or you just make your 2D paints and then have some fun quickly putting them in 3D?

really cool man, you should collaborate with some other animators and do a short film or something.
really impressive.

What's the song you used?

No point making an animation which consists of a few layers moving over eachother, doesn't seem to make sense to me.
The piece is amazing though!

sure there's no message in my videos but for ME alone it is something special to see the static painting moving around. it makes the impression much more believable.
