I think what most people seem to forget is what Pyrrha said to Jaune about aura, namely the part with their equipment being conduits for their aura. This most likely uncludes baseball bats, since it also included food.
So, since Ruby was most likely using her aura to protect the bat (IΒ΄ll explain later), this means that Penny threw the ball, and within the fraction of a second, this ball completely depleted RubyΒ΄s aura AND still had enough momentum to shatter said bat, a tree AND OzpinΒ΄s mug, which is definately protected by his aura.
And now, the explainations as to why Ruby would use her aura to protect a baseball bat:
1. Since she doesnΒ΄t strike me as the type of girl that plays baseball on a regular basis, she either borrowed it from a friend or her dad, and in both cases she would make sure to return it as close to the state she recieved it in as possible, so she uses her aura to keep anything fom happening to the bat at all.
2. Ruby knows how strong Penny is, so she would probably use her aura to counter that strength, just in case.
