Awesome! What pattern did you use? I've been trying to find one so I can make a vest like this for a costume, but alas, I haven't been able to find any patterns for this style.

I didn't really use a pattern per se. I went on eBay and bought the cheapest black pleather jacket I could find (just look for mens black leather jacket, you'll find a bunch of things similar to this from China, Hong Kong, and South Korea, should cost you a little over $20 including shipping).
I used a seam ripper to remove the sleeves (both the pleather and the lining) and open them up without damaging the material at all. I hemmed the armholes, and then made the one pattern piece I used, which was a piece of paper shaped like the straps on front, made by copying straps that were on the cuffs. I then used that to cut out six almost identical (except for length) straps, which I sewed together, attached to the vest along a pre-existing seam line (I used one of the cuff straps for the bottom one), and added snaps to.

Omg this is great! I've been looking for a way to make the jacket that doesn't require making it from scratch (as I can't make clothing patterns for shit) and this sounds like something I could do. Thankyou!!

Oh thats smart. I have all the supplies to make the vest (leather, snaps, and such) but was still in need of a pattern. Lucky me just found out that my grandma can make patterns! Thank goodness for Grandmas lol! Thanks for your advice though! I might go that route next time I make something for a costume.

Check out the big Winter Soldier thread on therpf.com, they have lots of advice and ideas for making the pattern.
