Been pretty busy with work this past week. Had a rush job for 4 storyboard frames (4x5 full color renderings) with less than 2 hrs to finish. Sometimes that kind of deadline can be inspiring. With no time to pencil the frames out, I just threw down the colors I thought would work and then tightened it up with colored pencil and paint.So, today for fun, I thought I'd try the same aproach for this pic. Kind of " sprint rendering" I guess. No pencil. Just throwing down color and hoping something jumps out at me.
Marker rendering took about 45 mins.
Photoshop 30 mins.

very impressive job for a "sprint rendering". i wonder what it would look like totally finished and polished. those diagonal strokes almost imply rain drops.....something extremely difficult to portray in an art piece.

I was a little worried I was going to look at this and the Rohan shield-maiden and roll my eyes and go 'gawd, Tim's being a trend-whore', but these are both distinctive and fun pieces that aren't focused on T3H M0VIE VERSION.
Brings up my long-put-off desire to sink some money into gouache and large board and just paint with very little plan. I can get that out sometimes, sorta, in Painter, but I usually lose the creative groove halfway through and fall on myself.

I can't say the movies haven't influenced me because that would be a lie. But I love the richness of the books and the life of Tolkien and his influences are very inspiring to me. I am a fan of the films, but the books are even better.

Damn! Those are sure some ugly Mo-fo's but that is an awsome pic. The Flame light on the armor and the cold breath add alot to the atmosphere. The twisted faces are great. Very nicely done.

A brilliant job! I am a great fan of Tolkien's lifework and as such it takes a fan to appreciate artwork based on his world. However you wouldn't have to be a fan to love this piece! Beautifully done!

Sometimes storyboarding is tough because of the short deadlines, but I try to manage. I should be getting about 60 Porsche frames this week. Then the real stress begins. LOL!
