Thanks. None for me though. I cant work with people watching me to save my life. Its a big reason I dont often sketch at shows. Im not sure why Im like this..but I am. I also think there are far better people out there to learn from. THanks for the vote though!

Hey! Is this one an alternative page to the one in comic!? I remember that issue, but I can't seem to find it at the moment...but I remember the plot and all.

Hey Tim, great job.

I've spent the day inking on my first proper job in comics, and its embarrassing to look at this and then compare it to mine. But very inspiring at the same time.

I was about to finish up for the night, but this makes me want to do that much better. I've always respected inkers, but never wanted to be one (could there be a more unforgiving media?). That is, until now.

There's a world of subtlety going on that I never fully appreciated. Dammit, I think I've been turned

Oh, by the way, about how long would you take on a page...say like this one for example?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TimTownsend In reply to charco [2008-09-11 17:09:22 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Not very many start out wanting to be an inker. I know I didnt and it wasnt until I was working as an assitant that I learn that there is a whole world in inking in and of itself. Once I recognized it as a legitimate art form (not just a craft) I sort of gave myself the go-ahead to pursue it in earnest.

A page like this is a good 7 hour day...or so.

Ya know, where most places are taking "short cuts" by eliminating inks and going straight to colors (which pisses me off to no end, btw), I think in the case of Chris and yourself, they should eliminate the colors instead. This is much clearer to read than the actual book (in which I, coincidently - and this is no shit - was re-reading last night).....

AND you should try and convince Chris to come to Heroes Con next year....

TimTownsend In reply to rantz [2008-09-09 18:47:57 +0000 UTC]

Im sorry to say even I wont be at Heroes next year. Im going to bite the bullet and do San Diego. Its been about 5 years since I went so Im overdue. Due to time and expenses, I have to chose unfortunately. But Ill be back at Heroes the following year. SD is a once in a blue moon thing for me.

BITE YER TONGUE!....seriously?! No heroes? WTF is the matter with you?? LOL - j/k man - I know how it is....I had to pass on Heroes this last year....dan mit. MegaCon sucked for me this year too, so not sure if I want to torture myself again with that - but when you have friends in the area (San, Scottie, Pat, and that little fuggin pain in the ass Kermit) - its hard not to go....since that's the only time I really get to see them....bastids don't travel to the west coast....so I have to go east....fuggers....so called friends....

I like how clean and graphic your linework is here! Almost (sorry for the comparison) a bit like Mignola, if you know what I mean. But without being so very reduced and cartoony like he does.

Really nice page. I just wish I recognized everyone in it. Do you know of any resources or websites that document all of the mutants from xmen and the story up to now from all of the comic series? I'd really like to catch up.

TimTownsend In reply to Taraakian [2008-09-09 17:14:29 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, I dont. To tell you the truth I dont even follow the story lines that closely myself.

Yeah, that drives me nuts. We've been lucky with colors for a while now though. Chris does a lot of the coloring himself and oversees the rest.

i don't know if you or Bachalo or both but these pages are so clean the read well as just black and white pages and don't even need color.

TimTownsend In reply to pycca [2008-09-09 17:19:57 +0000 UTC]

It certainly would be fine with me if they were in black and white. No slam on colors, Ive just always preferred black and white work.

How clean are the pages you get from bachalo?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TimTownsend In reply to Muady [2008-09-09 16:17:56 +0000 UTC]

Not very. Chris works out most of his drawing right on the page so there tends to be a lot of erasing. He also uses a blunt, soft lead and tends to bear down on the page. Theyre a bitch to erase once Im done with the inks. He tends to pencil loose but thats mainly because, after working together for over a decade, he knows I know what he wants. It also makes it a lot more fun for me since I actually get to do a little drawing.

MicoSuayan In reply to TimTownsend [2008-09-12 17:56:17 +0000 UTC]

Wow hope someday I can draw as loose as I can. I havent had an inker since I've been working with Marvel. So you can imagine how tight my work should be. Hands are twitching already... hehehe but I love it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TimTownsend In reply to MicoSuayan [2008-09-16 21:06:05 +0000 UTC]

I can only imagine. Your work is insanely tight. I dont know how you do it. Id love to see you work with an inker just to see how it turned out though. Any plans on that in the future? It would certainly take some of the pressure off of you.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Muady In reply to TimTownsend [2008-09-09 16:23:22 +0000 UTC]

Ah that does sound like fun. More fun then something
that is crisp and clean. You ink straight over the
drawings? I stoped doing that since i could never get
it as clean as i wanted... so i prefer my light box.

Dont think ive seen many bachalo drawings without your
ink on them...

TimTownsend In reply to Muady [2008-09-09 17:21:43 +0000 UTC]

Yes. All my inks are on the original penciled page. This is still standard practice for the majority of comic work.
