Since you don't mind spoilers, I'll give one about Moiraine. She pulls a disappearing act for about 2/3 of the entire series. I believe between The Shadow Rising and The Gathering Storm, you barely hear a peep about her.Β
But in terms of this work, I love the design of her outfit, and I love the way you depicted her working with the One Power. Also, to me, you were able to capture just how small Moiraine is. I believe it was established somewhere that she is barely 5 feet tall. She really does look petite in this work. Great job!

I know in-world it's called that. I'm wondering what it's called in real life.

Oh, well, unfortunately I have no idea.Β Does it even have a particular moniker outside of WoT?Β I've never been much for jewelry and the like.

<3 Me too. I haven't actually got that far yet- I always seem to miss the trends when they come, only to pick them up after everyone else is finished- but it's an awesome series.

Yes, I know some people who have been reading this series since before I was born. It makes me feel very naive. xD Nevertheless, it's an awesome series. I'm almost rather glad I wasn't there from the beginning, because I don't want to imagine how it felt when the series ended.

Thank you. I suppose one good thing about finding all the good things late, though, is that I rarely have to wait for things to be released. I mean, I only began reading Harry Potter after Deathly Hallows was published, when I was ten or so, well after most of my friends had begun reading it. And yes, I can already tell- it seems like wonderful company. ^^ I've seen some of the covers for other countries- I'm Chinese myself, and I saw the Japanese one, and I've been using the German edition to attempt to persuade my friend to read it. I haven't read that far yet, but I think I can tell that he did a good job- the fanbase seems quite approving, at least, which doesn't always happen when the author changes. Thanks!

yeah but it took YEARS for there to be new books after book like 11. and at the time my library had just gotten to like book 9. so i stopped by the time i found books 11+ at the public library it had been 2 years since i'd touched the books so i had essentially forgotten the whole plot. and summarizing 9 books is..... HARD.

tinazz In reply to lasile [2013-07-09 03:29:19 +0000 UTC]
I think the delay between the release of book 11 and the release of the last three was due to the author's passing away. Apparently, the original author's conception for the twelfth book was taken by another chosen fantasy author and adapted into the last three books. I understand your frustration about libraries- our school library's collection of them has so many holes in it, I doubt I can get two books together after the third, I'll probably need to pay a visit to the public library. x_x

yeah i learned about his death when i saw the 13th come out and saw the new author. i was confused! but yeah fantasy is a fabulous genre and you've done the work justice!

Thank you. I'm mostly used to book series switching authors by now; when I was a mentally deficient nine-year-old, I liked horse novels, including a series called Thoroughbred, and that one was over sixty books long, written by at least five different authors. I agree about fantasy being a great genre- it's one that I never tired of, along with science fiction, cheesy as some of it is. But I liked realist novels too; basically, I'll read anything as long as it's good.

same here i read ANYTHING so long as it's good. I used to read so ridiculously much when I was younger. But that stopped my senior year (this year). Applying to college is like a full time job! I loved the novels by Tamora Pierce those were amazing when i was young. I did attempt to finish LOTR once. No. The prose is just.....horrible. But the detail is amazing. I stick to the movies on that one. It's the one time the movie is better than the book! And yeah Sci-fi is also very awesome.

tinazz In reply to lasile [2013-07-09 22:05:33 +0000 UTC]
Perhaps I'll find I have the same experience. I must find Tamora Pierce in the library, then. I've never read LOTR, which shames me a little as I'm supposed to be a book-lover, but I tried picking up the fourth book and couldn't understand half of what it said, while I tried The Hobbit too and it was almost childish for my tastes. I don't watch many movies, but I'll give LOTR a go. On a side note, have you read The Casual Vacancy?

I started the series in sixth grade, and I finished it this year, in eleventh grade. Yeah, it took me two months to read the first book, in summer with free time, but the last ones only took me a week on top of school, work, and chores. The last one is really good!!

I'm afraid I don't have the honor of being a longtime fan. x) I perpetually seem to miss out on the trends as they come and only catch up later; or perhaps I'm just too young for the better ones in literature. So I've heard- I'm trying to get through these books as quickly as possible so I can read it. I'm halfway through The Great Hunt, I haven't read any for a few days though. x_x

Well, at least its carrying on means that there's a whole load more to occupy ourselves with. In China, I had to carry at least two books everywhere, even into restaurants- one to read, and one to hold over my nose discreetly because I don't like the smell of cigarette smoke- and I sort of picked up a habit after that.

I know enough to convince French deviants here that I can speak French, but in reality if you take me away from a dictionary and a keyboard I can barely string two sentences together. And yes, me too- I've always straddled two very different cultures, and I find new places incredibly exciting. Latin sounds exotic; are you fluent in it?
π: 0 β©: 1
anim8freek In reply to tinazz [2013-07-09 12:16:21 +0000 UTC]
Its mostly a dead language. Yes, I might be able to, but there are still some sentence constructions and words that I don't know. At my school, there's French, Spanish, and Latin to take. Spanish and French teach how to speak it. In Latin, we're taught how to pronounce it and translate it, but we can't carry a conversation in it. When I get to college, if they have Latin, I'd definitely take it, and then I might be fluent in it. Basically, in order to speak it, you'd have to have been learning since you were born, its that difficult to speak.

tinazz In reply to anim8freek [2013-07-09 22:01:14 +0000 UTC]
That sounds incredibly daunting... how precisely is it difficult to speak? Is it tonal, or just complicated? I know Chinese is quite a difficult language, but luckily I was brought up speaking it, although I attended school in an English-speaking country so my English writing is far better than my Chinese, and even learning to read and write Chinese was (and is) difficult. It would be worth the effort, though, I think, to be able to say you're fluent in Latin. ;D

anim8freek In reply to tinazz [2013-07-09 22:09:42 +0000 UTC]
More or less. Its not tone or whatnot, its pronouncing words. Different letter combinations are pronounced differently, like the letters a and e next to each other is pronounced as I in ice. O and e together is pronounced as OK in oink, its just a lot of remembering , that's all.Chinese is difficult because it has a different way of writing, whereas in Latin, you use the English alphabet.

I see. That does sound rather operose, but it must be a fascinating language to learn. I suppose, in that case, it is possible to play Latin scrabble? I've always regretted not being able to play Scrabble and similar games in Chinese.
