Def: Designed in late 1944 as a counter to the Russian IS-2, and a heavier version of the King Tiger. The VK.45.05 was built by Krupp, but had a turret built by Porche which was basically the VK.45.02's turret, but enlarged to house the bigger L/55 128 mm gun. Two prototypes were built by 1945, one had a rear mounted turret, and the second had it's turret mounted in the mid section. The two tanks performed similar to each other, but the first prototype suffered from bad gun depression, and it's rear suspension was getting overloaded by the weight of the turret. The tank did not make it passed prototype stage as the war ended, but the tanks did see action against Soviet tanks, and were able to destroy several T-23/85s, and IS-2s before they were overrun, and destroyed. Neither prototype, or even a wreck of the prototypes survived after the war most likely being scrapped by the Soviets.
