Pencils and white Sakura liner on printer paper.In stable orbit well off structure and stripped of immediate hazards, the wreckage of starfighter AD50201 has found new life not only as a listening post, but also as an unconventional platform for stargazing. Under the care of elementary instructor Dankovich, fifth year students affiliated with the River Forge astronomy club may receive special dispensation for field trips to the platform, getting a chance to get close and personal with the stars and planets. Most parents do not mind their cubs getting early vacuum experience, and the station technicians are more than eager for the opportunity to shake down the cub-sized egress suits.
The mood is friendly but firm, and the rules are simple: No roughhousing and absolutely no tampering with the equipment, or you're walking home.

Playful is the word. Playing rough is out of the question, but part of the field trip is for the cubs to learn there are safety margins to work with. Deep space is dangerous as hell, but it's also not actively trying to hurt anybody - and play is the best way to teach respect.
I use a lot of power tools in crafts. To date, the only times I've injured myself is when I've been replacing blades and strained myself accidentally tightening in the wrong direction. Think that is solely thanks to my father gradually giving me more allowance to craft alone as I grew up and being very clear on how tools are supposed to be used, rather than just banning everything as dangerous. And in the end, a space egress suit is really just a tool. A really complex tool, but a tool nonetheless: Use it right and it does what it is supposed to harmlessly.

Thank you. And no worries, you're right that the distinction is a bit lacking. This was actually a mnemonic doodle, so the number of passes each piece got was all over the place - but the scan turned out a lot better than I thought, and was persuaded by friends and family to submit it.
I'm glad to hear there's a bit of comic impression. One of my greatest monochrome sci-fi inspirations is Kari LeppΓ€nen (best known as one of the most prolific artists of The Phantom, less known for his own highly elaborate sci-fi - his ill-informed decision to name his main faction simply "starfleet" may have something to do with it...) I don't know if he originated it or if it is a Franco-Belgian invention, but his style of space-borne destruction is quite distinctive, with ships tearing up like sharp tendrils or ribs bending outwards.

I'm not sure if it exists anywhere online, but do warmly recommend his Demon Planet. Has some amazing starscapes and mechanical designs, and probably one of the best depictions of the style of explosion mentioned.
And as an added bonus, a pretty damn well done mascot character.

Currently trying to learn Russian for the sole purpose of reading Stardust Kids, so did a scene featuring an astronomy club - the setting of the game - as mnemonics. Worked so and so, but was fun to draw.

Why, thank you. I went about this piece mostly as a mnemonic exercise, so very glad to hear it turned out unexpectedly striking.
This is actually a very small drawing, about 10 centimeters wide, so some of the fine straight lines may be illusory, but glad to hear the detailing seems to work well. I haven't defined the internal layout of this type of starship yet, so besides the large pumps on the right most of the greebling is generic.
The impression of crayon is an interesting observation. This is actually pencil, only scanned with quite a sharp threshold, but can well imagine a similar result with crayon or scratchboard.
You are right about the sketchy look of some of the characters. Forgot to mention in the description how this is indeed a sketch - and not a very technically "correct" one as far as pipelines go - so some of the characters got more passes than others.
