War has changed. It's no longer about nations, ideologies or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines. War, and its consumption of life, has become a well-oiled machine. War has changed. ID tagged soldiers carry ID tagged weapons, use ID tagged gear. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. War has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control. All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction. And he who controls the battlefield, controls history. War has changed. When the battlefield is under total control, war... becomes routine.

How epic was that game, though? I've never had as satifying a gaming experience on the PS3 since then.

Wow. You are the one I ever met to think that since a LOT of people Hate Raiden and Love Snake, who wasnt in the game as much and they felt cheated because Raiden was never even advertised to be in the game.
But I'm not like that since the video game was still amazing and it gave birth to the badass that Raiden is today.
My favorite is maybe MGS3 because it was my first Metal Gear experience and from the moment Boss appears on the bridge I knew I was imediatly taken back by the story, than that theme song plays and I knew from their this was going to be something truely great.
The Boss is my favorite MGS character, which is tough to say because Snake comes in a Very close 2nd.
MGS4 might be my favorite though because it's plot is better, and the only reason I MGS3 could beat it is because I love The Boss.
Idk I'm playing MGS4 now to find out.

Sorry to disapoint you but Raiden wasn't made to make Snake look better at all. He was made to replace him.
You see Hideo Kojima recieved one paticular fan letter from a girl that said she did not want to play a story with a old man: And thus Raiden was born. His personality was to made to be more like the player, he is someone who has been playing video games, told to play out missions with no real motivation (other than he's told to, much like the structure of every video game). He was made to react similar to how the player would react and share more in common. This wasn't some big massive trick to make Snake bvetter because the truth is Kojima has been trying to destroy Snake since after Metal Gear Solid.
He doesnt want to do the series anymore, and he wants the new generation to takeover (thats what MGS: Rising is). He's wanted to stop making metal gear games for a long time, but he actiually get's suicide threats when it is announced he won't be doing the next game.
MGS4 in general is Snake's death as the main character. The real trick is the aging thing. By making Snake old people cant really complain abouthim being in MGS5, since the man is aging so fast.
If they were willing to bring out Raiden to make Snake look good, than why is Snake old now and on the verge of Death?
Kojima and the staff like Raiden. And MGS4 is just Kojima trying to sneak his way out the series, but do to the suicide threats he ended up directing Peace Walker.
They view Raiden as the future and Snake as just OLD.

Careful there. You're right about pretty meuch all of your facts but Hideo Kojima made Snake Old so that he was no longer obligated to continue the Metal Gear series. It's true that if any more Metal Gear games are made after Rising, Raiden would be the protagonist, but Kojima doesn't hate Snake (I mean think about it: the first Metal Gear Solid was when he really got popular, why would he get rid of him in the next game?).
I don't know if you've read Wheel of Time, but what Kojima did in Sons of Liberty was similar to what Robert Jordan did in Dragon Reborn, where the minute Rand reached the peak of his awesomeness, he stopped being written as the main character (you only caught glimpses of him through the perspective of other characters), which effectively catapulted him to even greater heights of awesomeness.
SO. Basically what I'm saying is: Yes. Raiden, as of Rising onwards, will take over the Metal Gear Series, as it continues without Snake (cause he's old) or Hideo (cause he's sick of Metal Gear as a whole). But the purpose of Raiden in Sons of Liberty wasn't to take over from Snake, but to give us a new perspective on his character.
