Description Taken at Wolf Park - Battle Ground, IN

I felt that it was only right to start out all of my Wolf Park photos with one of the newest members of the Wolf Park pack, Dharma. Not to mention that she was the exuberant one to hop on me with my white shirt and light gray photographer's vest with her muddy paws.

Not born at Wolf Park, she was brought there to be socialized and has joined in the main pack. She's a black wolf (I believe) which is just a melanistic color variation, and definitely extremely distinctive from the others not only due to her coat coloring but also because of that vibrant orange of her eyes. The site says that she is shy, but when we met her last month, there was nothing shy about this wolf who was all legs and excitement as she came to greet all of us, some of us face to face.

Wolves tend to be monogamous when there are low wolf numbers, often mating with only one other until one of the mates die, at which time the remaining wolf will find another mate. The alpha male will have a corresponding alpha female and the pair will rule the pack of their respective genders in general.

It's good to hear that she fits in with the other wolves I read somewhere that unique looking wolves (particularly black ones) are often rejected by their pack, and are forced to go solo or die

This is a beautiful, beautiful animal! She looks almost like she's half grizzly, half wolf A stunning capture, well done

One of the good things about Wolf Park is that they pay close attention to pack dynamics and if one wolf is getting too beat down or ostracized, they move them in with another pack where they'll get along. It almost seems like the boys in the main pack think of her as an ornery little sister that they tolerate being goofy and fun.

She's adorable! That's a very interesting coat color, I don't think I've seen the fully brown coat before. Usually I've seen black go to gray.
I reallllly want to go to Wolf Park sometime. It sounds like an awesome place.

I had never seen a coat like this before either, and her eyes were just beautiful. She is a bundle of energy and affection, I tell ya! You should definitely get there if you ever get the chance, they have their photo shoots in the spring and fall and it's such a unique experience and you can tell the staff genuinely care about the wolves.

I had a great model, she was so fun and lively too! You can see way more of the on my Flickr account where I uploaded everything rather than just my best of the best and you can see her tearing around the grass and then playing tug o war with a deer hide. LOL
