Description Taken at the Cleveland MetroParks Zoo - Cleveland, OH

So this is my first of many "baby" photos! After making the full circuit at the Cleveland Zoo, I realized that I was extremely fortunate to not only see lots of animals, but baby animals that were being active and cuddly with their mommas.

I knew that the koalas had joeys, but most time I was seeing them was when they were still tiny little things being held close, so it was exciting to see Nyoonbi, the male koala cub out and about moving around! He spent a lot of time wandering along each of the branches, sometimes trying to chew on them, sometimes just climbing from each of the branches, often giving me a little bit of a heart attack when he'd stretch and reach.

This was one of my first photos of him (and I was shooting in burst due to lower light levels and his active nature!), but he was just precious and adorable to watch.

The scientific name of the koala's genus, Phascolarctos, is derived from Greek phaskolos "pouch" and arktos "bear", though it's not actually a bear and it's name was given due to it's bear-like appearance.
