Description Yesterday my brother-in-law and his new fiancee allowed me to use them as guinea pigs in honing not only my photography skills but my people-direction skills as well. I spent the late evening directing them through both posed and "candids", trying to give them a nice variety of close-ups and tight portraits. Some of the photos at the beginning of the shoot really show my nervousness and theirs but as we relaxed, the photos got better and I was very pleased.

I had to say that I saved this for last as it was my absolute favorite. I'd had this very photo in my head when I asked them if they would mind me taking some engagement photos for them and was so blown away. It was a long road to find one another and when they finally did, we all knew that it would go the distance. I love the expression of love they have on their faces, the happiness and genuine expressions even as I was directing them into this pose. This is true love...and it doesn't happen every day.

Hey you're back! I thought I saw your account was deactivated? I was wondering what the heck happened and had no way to get hold of you to find out!

I like this one as well. But here's a tip (not a criticism): If this were a paying customer, you would want to be sure to also get a couple of frames of them looking more toward the camera so his nose is not so prominent. It's not something you would want to mention to a client, just be aware and make sure to provide options that downplay what some people might consider unflattering features. If they choose this one, that's great; if they don't like it for that reason, you want to be able to show them something else.

Very true! With these I fortunately knew my brother-in-law very well to know he wasn't self conscious about his nose (even though we tease him about it LOL), but you're right that with women you have to make sure they're standing a certain way to make them look slimmest or if someone has big ears that stick out to not get them full on--or if they have a big nose to tilt their head toward the camera, that sort of thing. In some of the photos I actually did some very minor burning around his nose to help shadow it a little more to make it seem less prominent. LOL

I wasn't surprised to find out that this one was both of their hands-down favorite out of all of them, it was mine too!

Me too! I'm so happy for them and fortunately no pressure to take their wedding photos since I'll be IN the wedding!

this one is my favorite...it looks like he could just kiss her any moment!...very nice job on all of the photos, but by far, this one takes the cake.

Thanks so much! They actually did a few moments later, but it wasn't as tender as this one. I may sprain my shoulder patting myself on the back for this one... LOL

go for it...you deserve it!...I picture this as a great postcard for a "save the date" for their wedding...with their names on it and the date they set....they owe you big time! LOL

I was thinking that as well for a save the date postcard! LOL and I figured I owed them big time for letting me get the first-time jitters out of the way so I could feel more relaxed when I would do it again!
