...AND if you pay attention to the Heroes of MOST of Leiji Matsumoto's stories... they mostly look like minor variations on the same guy... Harlock, Galaxy Express 999, Space Cruiser Yamato, Galaxy Express, Cosmo Warrior Zero.... so a proper homage to those stories would lean that way. Also the name "Space Pirate Batman" clearly invokes Harlock... so your point is what exactly?

It was an observation.

No reason to get so defensive. I suppose im a bit on guard as well since we all get asshole comments on a somewhat regular basis.
 
I think you kind of elaborated on what I was saying in your great wall of text there. Honestly though you really sound like your'e defending unoriginality.
Maybe you should focus on the tons of good comments you've got there instead.

Also, did I miss a comment? You know since yours starts halfway through a sentence. I guess you were trying to finish my sentence?
...AND maybe you should not answer back hastily and nasty when I didn't really mean anything bad. Much as im sure you didnt mean to sound like a dick, right?

No, if I was a troll i'd probably be making inane bs comments that had nothing to do with the subject or insulting your abilities.

That's not my intention. The image is done in a skillful manner.

I'm not exactly an Anime person. I'm not familiar with every single manga/anime creator. Harlock isn't really that obscure, but to alot of these kids these days who only know bleach, kill la kill, Deadman wonderland and modern crap he probably is.
It's like if someone came onto one of my paintings and said "This is just Caravaggio, or Titian etc" Of course i'd say " No, I'm a thousand times crappier than them, but yes, that's what I want to achieve."

If the influence is as obvious as you think, then why was I the only one who noticed it? Maybe b/c I'm 34 and all I know is old shit. maybe not. It was really just my way of asking if I was correct in guessing that.

I offer two concepts to you, take them or leave them, but you did ask... To me paying homage would be using their character/story in YOUR style, not theirs. There are many people working in their exact style already.
Secondly, styles can be elusive, causing people to feel like they need to search for theirs, causing depression etc.

Styles go out of style. The more realistic your work is, the more it becomes bulletproof to the changing trends of time. We will ALWAYS need to create that which doesn't exist and make it look like it does.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying you should change anything you do, and im pretty sure not all of your work looks like this image. Im not saying I have achieved realism. Just stating where i'm coming from.

I probably should've stated it differently. Sorry for the misunderstanding; it's been literally years since someone has apologized to me for anything, so I really appreciate it.

This was me playing about a bit. As an animation design professional for nearly 20 years, I tend to work in a myriad number of styles as a matter of course. I did this because I love both Batman AND Captain Harlock and was simply having a bit of fun to see if I could do that particular  I tend you post things on DA that I do for fun to blow of steam at the end of my working day.
