Description Just about every other traditional portrait I've ever tried has been a resounding failure, so I thought I'd break away from the accepted norm of a portrait and do things my own way. What is the point in having rules if your not going to smash them apart every now and then instead of doing things how everyone else does them or expects them to be done. It's a little different than the usual 'pose and render a girl then stick her on a premade portrait background'. I used a mixture of fractal brushes, my own home made paint splat brushes as well as my own vector swashes, and simply layered them over a gradiated background. I then used the same brush splats to chip in the the character using the eraser, then put some bit's back in using the clone tool, all very easy and not very time consuming as the photoshop elements only took about 20 mins or soo too complete. A few basic tools in PS can go a long way.

Thanks my friend! When ever I've tried a bog standard portrait I manage to fail epicly, trying something a little different seemed to pay off, hehehe.

She is very beautiful! Her eyes look very sad. Nice harmony between the figure and the background...
I like the splatter effects around her shoulder.

Thanks hun. This one turned out quite nice I though, could have done the fracture effect a little better I think, but not bad for a first attempt. A few people have asked me to turn it into a tutorial, so hopefully that should be up sometime next week.

Smash them more often. Standard portraits get boring after a while because they all look the same

toadz In reply to nightlylly [2013-03-26 13:32:08 +0000 UTC]

Thanks hun! I think I'll be trying this effect again as I think with a little more work I could get the fracturing effect looking a little better. It was definatly fun trying something a little different than the usual portrait style though. Thanks for the comment hun!

toadz In reply to TLCDigitalArt [2013-03-26 01:36:06 +0000 UTC]

Thanks hun. It really is all pretty simple stuff, just brushes and the clone tool really. Definatly more creative than a nudey render! I even gave her new eyebrows with bumps etc because her other ones were way too thick and heavy. I really like the fact you can see the star tattoos next to her eye too. I think maybe the fracturing effect could have been better so I might have another go at this style but with a full body shot.

Thanks for the kind words hun!

IanTP In reply to toadz [2013-03-27 07:59:28 +0000 UTC]

LOL! The only thing to turn me in to a jabbering wreck will be Luxus, more reading planned, and get Daz, release a product with a 'basic' manual, then release another product to explain it properly!

toadz In reply to IanTP [2013-03-27 15:25:36 +0000 UTC]

I got Luxus last week, installed it and restarted DAZ. I tried to select the 'Render Via Luxus' option from the render engine and it's not showing it. Any idea on what that is all about?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IanTP In reply to toadz [2013-03-27 22:08:02 +0000 UTC]

Have you got Luxrender too? Get the standalone version, [link] then choose Luxus witth Luxrender in settings and brose to the Luxrender exe [link] I have the OpenCL version which is probably what you want.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

toadz In reply to IanTP [2013-03-28 19:04:58 +0000 UTC]

Yup, I downloaded the LuxRender as per the instructions for Luxus. I downloaded it again and installed just to make sure I had not floofed up. I went into my render settings again and the only options I can see are Preview Render, Hardware Assisted Render, 3Delight and Scripted 3Delight. Does it need to be run with DS4.5? I've still not got around to downloading and installing it, and I'm still running DS4 Pro from when the released it as a freebie last year. Other than that, I have no idea what could be going wrong.

IanTP In reply to toadz [2013-03-28 21:21:49 +0000 UTC]

yes, it's 4.5 only, sorry. Make the leap, it's not that bad

toadz In reply to IanTP [2013-03-29 15:31:47 +0000 UTC]

Ah ha! Now we are getting somewhere. I am usualy pretty late getting the newest versions of Studio. I stuck with DS3A for quite some time before making the jump to DS4Pro. I'll probably get it downloaded and installed sometime this weekend...and then bug you with more questions, hehehehe!

I do love how PS can spin an art piece up a level or two. Poppy is a great example so you keep those coming as your health allows.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

toadz In reply to orchid22 [2013-03-26 13:25:27 +0000 UTC]

Well, my health means I am not doing all that much at the moment so I've got plenty of time to get renders done. The only problem is that after an hour or two of being sat at my PC I start getting pains in my back. When that happens I just stick a vid or two on You Tube and have a lay down on my bed until it feels better. Physio on the other hand, lol, I feel like my body is going to break when my evil physio has me bending all over the place. She is evil!
