Description July:

Yellow bird, up high in banana tree.
Yellow bird, you sit all alone like me.
Did your lady friend leave the nest again?
That is very sad, Makes me feel so bad.
You can fly away, In the sky away
You more lucky than me.

Did your lady friend leave your nest again?
That is very sad, makes me feel so bad.
You can fly away, in the sky away.
You're more lucky than me.

I also had a pretty girl, she's not with me today.
They're all the same those pretty girls.
Take tenderness, then they fly away.

Yellow bird, up high in banana tree.
Yellow bird, you sit all alone like me.
Better fly away, In the sky away,
Picker coming soon, Pick from night to noon.
Black and yellow you, Like banana too
They may pick you some day.

Wish that I was a yellow bird,
I fly away with you.
But I am not a yellow bird
So I sit, nothing else to do.

Ah summertime! In the bitter cold of winter it seems as far away as the tropical destinations that many of us Canadians dream about this time of year. Nothing evokes the tropics like a little traditional Jamaican music. Follow this [link] to enjoy "Yellow Bird" as sung by the Brothers Four as you look at this picture...and just maybe you'll forget how frozen your is for a moment...

I seeded this fractal with Rototubes and followed up with copious amounts of tweaking to obtain this Apo 2.08 flame design. ^cmptrwhz was kind enough to do the 30+ hour render for me. I then overlayed onto [link] by ~qHidoi and submitted to Apo's tropical WTC

Thank you for the compliment! No need to be jealous though , you can learn to make fractals like this one. In fact, you can use this [link] to give you a head start I include tips on how to tweak the flames and you can always note me if you want to learn more...

Sasha, this is great! I like how thick the tubes are. My piece, Sweet And Clean tubes were thinner. I like the appearance yours better. I need to work with this script more.

Thanks Patricia! If you do plan to revisit the script, I highly recommend going with version 3. Not only does it have the most built-in flexibility, I've also added a sort of mni-tutorial on how to tweak it in the attached text file Also feel free to note me if you want to try something that the script doesn't cover. It isn't just the tube thickness that gives this fractal it's unique appearance BTW. The real "trick" isn't mentioned in the notes either, but if you want to try it - just note me, I'd be happy to share the secret with you.

I've lost your message for this picture.

I gather it's intended for the club.

So... if you haven't yet done so please send a request to join, in a note to the club, and fave it, also put its avatar in your account somewhere.

Then send this to the club as thumbs in a Note marked Sub.

Sorry I didn't make the rules.

Sue.

Actually, I've been behind the 8-ball and just haven't gotten around to joining and submitting. I also wanted to check with you if this was the sort of work that is acceptable there (its pretty much a clean render layered onto the background image with some cropping and contrast adjustments - I wasn't sure if that constituted enough "manipulation" to qualify). Ditto with my latest submission [link]

What you say you do is, I think, the minimum requirement. We prefer even more changes .

I'm not the real expert... I'd say this new one was OK.( I'm not judging artistic merit. )
When I asked about the last one, I was told that it's preferable to integrate the fractal with the other elements. That's what I understood anyway.
I don't like telling people that something very nice is not suitable.

So my advice, if you fancy joining us, is to manipulate the fractal a little bit or to merge it pretty well with the other parts, photo etc., or add some sort of texture, do some sort of post work.
I think the new one is better from that point of view. The water seems to enter the fractal.

At the moment I accept the subs, as our founder *chaotic-mimustock is busy moving house. It's rather long.
The other founder, Eva ~Xantipa2 , can judge what she thinks is OK, but speaks little English to explain what she means. So I am a sort of go-between.

If you have a little patience with us three we should sort it out in the end.
Personally I'm pleased to see you interested in what we try to promote.

I can tell you that I make manipulations that I don't submit. For example, we want one fractal at least to be personally made.
I like manipulating anything, even textures.

I don't remember if you have joined . If you haven't just watch the club and put our avatar somewhere. I'll watch you, if it isn't done already. Subs are by Note marked Sub and we fave the picture to get it into our account and into a collection.
Then when we have accumulated enough, Eva makes sheets that are obtained by screen shots, which are then submitted ( to our account) with a link back to the original faves. Get it? Since our members watch us they receive the sheets. It's quite a clever idea. It takes less space in the deviation watch.

OK. Enough. I mustn't wear out your patience.

Thanks for the info Sue! Well, put in my join request along with the requisit link additions to my journal. I also noted a couple of test submissions. I ended up picking a pair of images that I felt involved more post-work to start out. I like the way that Eva has arranged the gallery submissions, very clever indeed! I might try that for !

Eva uses a template which she changes from time to time.I've tried to use it to be able to share the work, but I can't make it as neat. She knows Photoshop very well. It would take me too long.

I think you are wise to send us pictures with plenty of postwork, then no-one will be a nuisance !

I'll go over to the club and see to your submissions.

BTW: I revised "Surfin' USA" to include quite a bit more postwork. It's subtle, but I think it adds impact to the image. Take a look and let me know what you think [link]

Well I hope that you didn't hurt yourself too badly I've had friends who have broken bones on the ice. I took a tumble a few weeks ago in the parking lot at work and ended wearing a tray full of coffee I was bringing back from Timmy's for a break with a colleague. No lasting scars ... unless you count the ones to my pride

I can really get into the folky finger-picked melodies myself. I have a friend that I do S & G and Stan Rogers duets with whenever we get together. I also like the balls-to-the wall amplifier set to 11 kind of stuff like Crimson, Tool and Steve Vai. I have a whole other group of friends that help me satisfy those appetites...

My favorite guitarist is Lindsey Graham, lead guitarist for Fleetwood Mac. He's amazing. I can't believe he doesn't use a pick. All fingers.

You're talking about Lindsey Buckingham right? His work on "Never Going Back Again" is one of the finest Travis picking etudes that I'd ever learned. Have you ever listened to Chet Atkins, or Lenny Breau? These guys are also incredible finger picking legends.

PeterPawn In reply to ToAPP [2008-12-15 00:55:58 +0000 UTC]

I stand corrected, it is Buckingham. Listen to how he ends the Fleetwood Mac song "Gypsy." That piece just sends me. He does not use a pick of any kind. Just all fingers.
I was influenced by both Atkins and Travis. Not familiar with Breau.
Sorry for the

Oh yeah! I really like that part in Gypsy too!

Not familiar with Lenny Breau eh? Here's a little excerpt from a feature piece on him:
[link]

Totally mind-blowing technique and beauty set against a simple and unpretentious arrangement. Just listen the respect all the other guitar legends in the feature just heap on him (there are more excerpts from this feature on youtube)...what more can I possibly add to that?

Breau is awesome. When they were handing out talent he must've got in line about 6 times.
