Build: Rayne is a fairly average sized male, well muscled and sleek with thicker fur on the back of his neck, rump, and tail. His fur is a bit messy in the thicker spots, and his paws are a bit big for his size.

Personality:

Rayne is a bit of a mysterious fellow, and he's quite happy to keep it that way. He's a charming sort, friendly and casual, but in an almost guarded sort of way. He's a wolf who may put on a bright face despite pain or adversity, just to keep others spirits high. It's a sort of smile where you might not be able to be certain its genuine. Nonetheless he can be quite sweet and good humored, especially around pups. Rayne is very very fond of playing with pups.

For the most part Rayne is very wary about betraying his true thoughts and feelings, especially as a way of keeping himself and those he cares about safe. While he's not one to avoid interpersonal contact or making friends, Rayne has a mild fear of abandonment that makes it hard to connect. He enjoys the company of others, but deep down worries about losing those he's closest to or being left behind by them. As a result unless he has a prior bond with someone, he tends to avoid getting too close. If you can manage to get close to him though, one will find a loyal friend in Rayne.

When given a task, Rayne can be a very driven and determined wolf. Even when he starkly disagrees with the objective, Rayne will do what he has to, though he won't be proud of his work. When he's dedicated though, little will stop Rayne from following through. When it comes to battle, Rayne doesn't back down, even when outclassed by his opponent. It would take life or death stakes to get him to retreat, though if he has something or someone to fight for, even that may not shake his resolve. He wants little more than to do his best for those he cares about, whatever that may take.

Pre-Group History:
Rayne was born in a small forested clearing in the southernmost reachest of the domain to two loners. The lone male in a litter of four, Rayne spent a lot of his puphood playing with and being teased by his sisters, though his mother always made sure they played fairly. His mother stayed with the pups and kept an eye on them while his father hunted and protected their lone meadow. One winter day, when Rayne was a juvenile, his father left to hunt for an elk and never returned. Rayne and his sisters were certain that he had just gotten lost on his trip, and would return one day, but their mother was convinced he had abandoned them and became very depressed.

Forced to hunt on her own for them, for a couple of months Rayne's mother would sneak away while they were asleep to hunt and return with small game like rabbits. Over the next few months however, as Rayne and his sisters learned to hunt small prey, their mother would start disappearing for longer and longer. She started to ask Rayne and his sisters to provide for themselves as well as her, staying at their den and napping the days away for the most part. Over the next month, Rayne worked hard to feed his family, with his mother growing more and more needy. Rayne had only just grown into a young adult when his mother revealed that she was pregnant, and leaving their den to raise a new family with her new mate, who she'd been meeting for several months. With little more than a goodbye, she was gone.

Now fending for themselves with no other family, Rayne felt trapped in the meadow he'd grown up in. He had to escape, and see more than this forest had to offer. Petitioning his sisters, Rayne convinced Snow and Farrin to travel away from their homeland with him. Orchid, who was too attached to their childhood home, chose to stay alone. Leading his remaining sisters, Rayne traveled northward, crossing several rivers and keeping close to the seashore to avoid crossing through the mountains. They became skilled in hunting bigger game, which unfortunately led them into skirmishes with other lone wolves. One small group, lead by a wolf named Charlain, took particular glee in tormenting them in the northeastern forests of the domain. In a battle with them over a deer carcass, Farrin was killed, and Rayne and Snow were forced to flee. Enraged by the loss of what little family he had left, Rayne planned a counterattack against them, but it didn't go quite as he planned. Locked in battle with the loners, one drove him backwards into the river that bordered The Southern Wild.

Swept away by the current and unable to swim, Rayne nearly drowned in that river. He would have died, if it hadn't been for an old healer wolf who pulled him out of the river and nursed him back to health. Feeling deeply indebted to the wolf for saving his life, and unsure of what to do now that he was separated from his only living family, Rayne stayed with him and learned a bit about medicinal plants and herbs. The old healer only asked one thing of him in return; that he would use the skills he learned to help others. Sending Rayne on to find his destiny elsewhere, the healer wolf suggested that he seek out the pack of Fellfang, whose border lay just to the north. While they were once vicious marauders, he'd heard that the pack had turned over a new leaf, and would likely be the best place for Rayne now. Unsure, but trusting in his friend's wisdom, Rayne ventured towards Fellfang's Misthelm watch, seeking a place in the skuld.
