Description And so it begins. It’s been quite some time since I’ve tried to think sequentially like this. I’ve mostly focused on one-off illustrations, either something digital or something for Inktober. It was a little frustrating at first, I had a hard time getting my Brain to kick off the rust and start showing me things. Once it started, things really started flowing, though, which is a great feeling. There’s not much worse as a visual artist than staring at a blank page and not really knowing what to do to get those flood gates open. As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m going to run through each step from beginning to end to keep things consistent, make edits to scenes and flow, and generally to make it easier to catch mistakes early. I have no idea how long this thumbnailing process will take. I got through the first six pages, which is almost entirely new stuff. I made it to the point where the original comic strip kicks in, so in theory a lot of that should go quicker (though I will be making some changes along the way). Once I get to new territory again, I have no idea. I’ve been taking notes and figuring out direction, I’ve “seen” a few scenes, and I’ll continue to let that process run “in the background” of my Brain while I work on this step. Thumbnailing can be fun and rewarding because it’s fast, but I do itch to do something more polished. I’ll have to resist that urge so as not to get ahead of myself, and I’m hoping my continued Inktober 52 illustrations will scratch that itch for the time being.
