It’s been a bit since I’ve had a chance to work on IPMDT 2.0 between Inktoberings, the Mother’s Day card, and another gift card thing. I’ve had some interruptions to studio time, too, but that’s just the way life is. One of those interruptions last week was traveling back down to my old stomping grounds (about 2 hours away without traffic, but that day it took me almost 3) for a gallery opening for my high school art teacher. I hadn’t seen him since 1999, and fell out of touch with him. I have thought about him a ton over the years. He was such an inspiration, such a champion for the arts and for us young creatives. He exudes joy and has an enthusiasm for life that is contagious. I’m happy to say, other than perhaps looking a little older, he is the same guy. I realized I had never seen any of his art other than whatever he would do during class with us, so it was great to see. I got to chat with him about his current projects and the evolution of his art over his lifetime (the show was a life retrospective). We had a mini class of ‘95 art room reunion as well. I got to see and catch up with in person several friends that I’ve stayed in touch with through the magic of social media but haven’t seen in decades (with an exception or two). It was an awesome evening, but too short. Hopefully we make it happen again before another couple of decades slip past.
