Painted this for my late uncle's 60th as it was something he really wanted when I first started out my Chinese painting course. It was an overwhelming request because I wasn't near ready enough to tackle a shanshui painting considering my skill level. But his big day was coming up fast so I had no choice but to reproduce an existing painting. It still was an absolute rush job, took me a whole 5 days and I was drying it with a hair dryer an hour before leaving for the airport. The quality suffered a bit for it, but all things considered I'm pretty proud. He was too and that made it all worth it! One day I'll be good enough to paint my own. I've seen so many beautiful sceneries in China. Material enough to work with for one lifetime I'd imagine
Chinese inks and paints on xuanzhiΒ rice paper. Crappy cellphone quality picture unfortunately. Edited in PS to increase colour contrast to reflect how it looks in person.Β

Wow this painting is amazing. I spent some time in China and I also tried to learn a little of Chinese art, but it's just too hard ^^ which is sad, because some of the landscapes just want to be painted.

Rice paper absorbs like crazy, so it's unforgiving with mistakes, but on the other hand, it produces lovely ink bleeds, so it's great material for these kinds of paintings

No problem, and thank you for the compliments! I'm not really a traditional artist anymore (I've become far too used to digital techniques!), but I can honestly say that any drawing you can eat is okay with me.
