Theme song: Hopeless Wanderer by Mumford and Sons

Personality: As a newborn, though sickly, Zess was playful and inquisitive. Rather quickly though, those base traits wore off as mistreatment from his herd, contentment from his mother, and death of both his mother and his twin brother began to wear on him. He has become hardened and has learned to cope with his emotions by simply ignoring them. He has a lowered self-esteem and has little regard for his life. He is not depressive however. He rarely shows passion for anything and is slow to smile or anger. He is not nearly as superstitious as his herd, at least not in the same way, and he tends to be rather intelligent in nature. He is often seen lurking on the outlines of the main herd area in on the outskirts of the forests which, in part, has earned him the nickname of 'Silverthorne's Ghost'. He has become the example that many Silverthorne does use to teach their fawns about what happens to a fawnling that mocks the gods. Zess has learned to adopt this and use it to his advantage, earning himself privacy as fawns grow up learning to avoid him
Zess seems to be uncaring, impassive, blunt, and inexpressive on first impression.  Despite his first impressions, Zess is actually rather caring by nature to those he deems to be friends. He looks for those suffering and seeks to protect them, though he often doesn't really know how. He has a loyalty streak and feels honor-bound to his deceased brother.
He will occasionally participate in rut, but not to claim does, only to keep up his training, strength, and stamina.  He is not social, but mostly because he doesn't know how to properly socialize and is always on guard expecting insults and jibes and so he feels uncomfortable in social situations and actively avoids them. He tends to be a gentleman towards does however, something that his mother drilled into his head while growing up. He often travels to and walks along the the borders of Blackwood looking for Blackwood Raiders.

Appearance: Zess is a very pale gold champagne, causing him to look white while in low light. In the sun he shines a soft golden color. He has bright amber eyes while his antlers and hooves are dark golden/amber, the tips of his antlers fading off into a lighter color. He sports a small beard and feathering and a shorter mane than most fawnlings; Zess rather prefers it this way though as he figures a long mane would just get in the way. He has a long Arabian-type neck with long legs and well-toned muscled body. Reputation aside, Zess would be considered a very handsome Silverthorne stag with his light golden coat and 'soldier's look'.

Trinkets: Metal antler tip received from Hekla . He wears the tip on the first tine of his antlers. The rest of the year the tip is carried on a string tied around his left foreleg just above the knee.

Scars: Zess has scars that cover quite a bit of his body, but very few are openly visible due to his coloring since the hairs on the scars simply grew back white. Most of his scars were either caused by his father or other stags that he has fought. The largest and most visible scar he has was received after he was attacked by a cavelion. It covers a good portion his shoulder and although the hair grew back white like most of his other scars it is large enough to see the color difference even when not in good light.

History/Storytime: Zess' mother, Aiva became pregnant after being claimed by a large, heavy stag named Lucis. Lucis was a well known soldier of the herd and was also rather talented with fire magic, though he was also known for his aggressive nature and does tended to fear him and did their best to avoid being claimed by him. His coat was revered as he sported a dark shade of gold champagne. However, during the beginning of rut season of 749, Lucis disappeared, abandoning Zess' pregnant mother. It was discovered that Lucis had gone rogue and turned renegade and had left to avoid execution from his own herd. Aiva was left without a harem.
-In the year 750, in early summer, Aiva gave birth to twins, much to her horror. Zayne was born first, Aiva's fifth fawn, while Zess was born shortly after, her sixth. Zayne looked very much like his mother, a lighter classic champagne and appeared to be a rather healthy little fawn. Zess on the other hand had a the light golden champagne, but he was smaller than his brother and appeared to be almost sickly. Aiva feared bringing her fawns back to the herd, it was common knowledge that this was to be Aiva's fifth fawn and therefore her last. She knew very well the greeting the herd would give them. She greatly feared for herself. Eventually though she wandered back to the herd, fearing predators more than the herd.
The herd initially welcomed her, but then noticed the pair of twins behind her. The herd reacted angrily and immediately ridiculed her. They hoped that Zess was actually the fifth and Zayne the sixth as Zayne was borderline dark-coated and Zess was golden-coated. It soon became very obviously though that Zess was the second twin as he was smaller and weaker. Zess was seen as a mockery towards the gods as his coat was the blessed golden color, but he was also a sixth fawn. Aiva was shunned with her fawns and she was pushed to live at the edge of the herd.
Aiva, although she loved her son, She spoke to him sharply and bluntly, rarely showing him much affection. Zess was small and sickly, and became the target for other fawns to bully. His brother, Zayne, however became his protector.  Zayne would do his best to shield Zess from other fawns bullying and the two became very close. Their personalities, however, soon became very different. Zayne was charismatic and optimistic and, although his family was now shunned, he managed to gain the favor of some of the adults. He was large and healthy and showed great potential to become a great soldier. Zess on the other hand soon grew into an angry and bitter. He longed for attention and learned the unhealthy way to get it. Fights were often started and he was often beaten as young colts gained up on him. Zayne often had to come running to shield his brother and stop the fight. The twins though spent a lot of time together and Zess felt that with his brother he could be himself. It was only when Zayne is around that Zess felt alright.
-In the year 752 Zess is still the target for bullying, but he has started to grow past his initial weakness and is now able to fight back rather effectively. The smarter young bucks only get at him in pairs.
-The year 754 Zayne is now actively training to become a soldier and Zess often spends time alone. The greatest tradegy of Zess' life also occurs. He also comes to know his exiled father.
-In the year 755 a little over a year later Zess managed to escape from his father and returned to his herd, but he was not greeted warmly. He reported his brother's death. His explanation was reluctantly accepted as two Blackwood stags had been found the previous year with the same description. Many herd members whispered that Zess had actually been the one to kill Zayne. He also returned to find out that his mother had passed away in his absence. It is suspected that her passing was contributed to the sudden loss of her two sons causing her to grow ill and eventually pass. This news in a double blow for Zess.
-756-763 He is often seen wandering the edge of the herd and occasionally disappears for days or weeks on end. He rarely comes out into the open. This and his color has earned him the nickname Silverthorne's Ghost. Does often tell their fawns that if they're bad then he will steal them away and take them to Blackwood. Zess was given the rank of scout in 758 mostly for appearance reasons as no one wanted him to become a soldier. Zess accepted the rank casually and despite the treatment of his herd he still does his duties (Mainly out of loyalty to his twin brother and not to the herd).
