READ BEFORE COMMENTING

1.) I know this flag has been used by Czechoslovakia after the WWI (since 1920), but the previous flag of Bohemia was identical to Poland's and the Slovakian to Russia's.
To avoid confusion, I went with this flag. It also represents not only Czechs but Slovaks as well.

2.) Tak nám zabili Ferdinanda / Also sie ham uns den Ferdinand erschlagen / And so they've killed our Ferdinand

Is the first sentence in the most famous Czech book, or at least the most translated, The Good Soldier Švejk (Osudy dobrého vojáka Švejka)

It's a satirical/dark comedy novel by Jaroslav Hašek. (in case you want to learn more [link] )

Even though I don't know Chech language, I've recognised the first phrase imediately. The Good Soldier Švejk is such a great book!

Great idea with <<< Prev page | ...| Next page >>> , looks good and is very nifty.
Švejk FTW! Nice.
I dig your countryball-drawing style, I can already recognize it.

There's nothing wrong with using the Czechoslovakia flag I guess, but since most readers associate it with the current Czech flag, it's not obvious that it also represents Slovak(ian)s.   Hm... okay, still less confusing than using the authentic flags that look like Poland's and Russia's. Uhhh, flags are definitely troublesome! >.<

thanks  though it's kinda common to use the links to next pages on dA ... I hate when they're not there

Have you read Švejk?

I will have some troubles with flags throughout this comic ...

It's not as common as should be, especially in doujinshis.

I have read Švejk's comic version as a child, it was cute but I don't remember much. I shall read the book version. Too bad it isn't finished.

Yea, it's a shame it's unfinished

Well, I still haven't read it to the end

Did they really all hate Austria-Hungary and felt more conencted to Russia?
I read many Czechs fought for Austria without any complaining.

Also is the flag you used historically accurat here? XD

Of course not all, but yes, back in those days Czechs adored Russia unlike nowadays. Russia was a role model of an independent Slavic nation.

I don't think I know enough to teach you about this, but I believe the majority of Czech soldiers weren't happy about fighting for the monarchy in which were their nation considered as less important, to say the least.

Hm but wasn´t Austria-Hungary on the best way for real equality,
especially the plans of the peace loving Franz Ferdinand?

But I understans it was the time of nationalism, everyone wanted independance,
even when it would´ve been a disadvantage.

About this, I CAN tell you something ... we are now learning about this

1859 - end of Neoabsolutism, 1860 Austrian Empire is constitutional monarchy

Czech politicians were for federalization of Austrian Empire. (the conception of Austro-Slavism )
However, Germans living in Czech lands were afraid of losing their privileges.

1867 - A-H was established - Czechs were unhappy because it wasn't helping their situation.
And for Slovaks? Now that Hungary had full control over them, they were oppressed more than ever (hard Magyarization)

The moderate unsuccessful political movement was slowly being replaced by more radical (not radical) - I will not go in so much detail.

1906 - universal suffrage - that made people happy

Before WWI Czech language was on the same level as German (in Czech lands), but Czechs and Germans/Austrians weren't
70% of economic potential of the whole monarchy was in the Czech lands

So yes ... Czechs weren't having a bad times (unlike Slovaks) and I think if it weren't for WWI and Federation was established, there would be no reason for separation
(apart of nationalism of course)

Very good overview thanks! Indeed I read Czechia was rather rich and developed
concerning industries. Communism ruined you, like it did with all states in the east.

Yes ... the communism, but also partly the expulsion of Germans. Many of those factories were run by Germans and after the expulsion they were replaced by inexperienced personnel. Well ... they reason they owned those factories was also that they were privileged before ... it's all very complicated ...

Yes don´t worry u can always be honest with me.

I know that surely also some Germans were arrogant,
both sides made mistakes.

From what I know, Panslavism was pretty popular among Czechs and Slovakians then~

Fortunately not that much - the significant amount of my groups were dedicated to rather not popular pairings (either the canon and the fandom ones), which didn't upload new fanarts so often as the popular groups~
