Description In the early to mid 2000's the New River Road was looking for another passenger locomotive for commuter service to continue expanding service they went to Motive Power Incorporated or MPI (formerly Morrison Knudsen) for an answer they soon took a look at MPI's popular MP36PH-3C commuter locomotive on many commuter railroads and so in 2005 they order five locomotives number 520-524 and put them to use in commuter service beetwen Hinton and Huntington West Virginia after they proved their worth they order another batch of six locomotives in 2006 number 525-530 and later three more in 2007 number 531-533 bringing it to a total of 14 MP36PH-3C's on NRR's roster they are painted in NRR's blue with yellow stripes C&O inspired paint scheme and they continue to operate to this day in commuter service aswell as express runs
