Description Pelagornis was a giant seagull-like bird with a jagged beak, capable of snatching fish and other animals. This bird ruled the skies of North America during the Late Oligocene to Early Pleistocene epoch and had a massive wing span up to 23 feet. It belonged to a family of birds called the Pseudotooth birds, and scientists believed that it was either related to the pelican, stork or the water fowl.
