Black Africans make up just over a hlaf of the population of the Northern Cape (50,35%) with a total population of 576 986. The district of Kudumane in the northeast is homogenously Black African and Tswana-speaking, and the Black African communities in the northern half of the province (around Kimberley, Warrenton, Postmasburg etc) are mostly Tswana-speaking, while those in the south are mostly Xhosa-speaking. The map shows clearly the decline of Black African percentages as one moves westwards, with practical absence in the western half of the province
