This pretty much looks like a slightly cartoony I-16 with extra guns strapped onto it. But why try to improve on perfection?

The Flying Tractor! Β
I admire the courage Russian pilots had in in facing the German onslaught in crates like this. Β Also, they took the lend-lease P-39 Aricobra, a fighter Β that was pretty much dissed by the other Allies, and made it it a real fighting machine - their beloved 'Little Cobra'.

Hi WagmoreBarkless. Yes - the ordinary Russian pilot, soldier and citizen played a big part in bringing down the Nazis with little hardware.Β

i think there was a plane like this built as a prototype. it was supposed o be a bomber killer but it had a lot of problems and was scrapped for the most part.

Hi thatbrodyguy.
It's based on a Soviet fighter - advanced when it first appeared.
There has been other "mini" planes, though, that weren't so successful.

Its the Soviet way!
We called it the Spray and Pray method.
Fill the air with lead and copper.
One might get in the way of the target.
The Russians were big on massive fire power instead of accuracy.
Example.
The AK47 max range is about 400 tops.
The M14 max is 800.
The difference is rate of fire where the AK is best.
The M14 is much more accurate but a lower rate of fire.
In the Cold War if it went hot it was expected a million Soviet soldiers would charge into the Fulda Gap all firing away with their AKs. Half would die before getting into their AK maximum effective range of 400 by being picked off by American shooters engaging at 800 meters.
However this issue has improved using the 5.45 AK 74 which ranges out to 800 or so.
And they now spend time being accurate rather than spraying and praying.
