Description
Ghost Scarab
Gwen Stacy + Sparkington “Sparky” Northrup + Blue Beetle (Legacy)
In one amalgam universe, the Shannon Garrett was the Scarab Queen. An archeologist that gained her powers from a mystic scarab while on a dig in Egypt, Scarab Queen. Somewhat of an anti-hero during her time, Shannon adopted a young woman named Gwen “Sparky” Northrup.
Gwen grew up and in college befriended, and soon began to date, a young man named Teddy Parker. Teddy, she quickly discovered was transformed by the beetle totem into the powered hero, Blue Scarab. Teddy had powers, but his scientific invention was his real strong suit. He fought crime, but during one battle with Maxwell Octavius, Scarab Queen attempted to help, but at her age was no threat and she died. Gwen blamed Teddy for her adopted mother’s death. She eventually reconciled, but was soon murdered by another of Teddy’s enemies, Conrad Osborn aka Carapax the Indestructible Goblin. Sure, Dr. Klaus Warren (the Masked Jackal) at Project Alchemax had fallen in love with her and cloned her multiple times, but that’s not important right now.
In another reality in the Scarab-Verse, Gwen Northrup was the one who was empowered by the Scarab, except in this reality, the Scarab Symbiote was the source of her power. The Scarab Symbiote was found in the universe where Gwen was killed by Carapax when Teddy Parker was drafted to fight in the Secret Crisis on far away Warworld. In this universe, however, the Scarab Symbiote reached earth far earlier, and she gained her power when she came within contact of it at an Egyptian antiquities exhibit at the museum.
Gwen became Scarab Woman for a bit, when she had to fight her best friend, Teddy Parker, who was corrupted by the Scarab Symbiote while he was studying it for Gwen. He became Black Venom, and Gwen fought him, but was unable to save him from the symbiote and he died. She took the symbiote and was able to control it (mostly).
Later, even though she did not get her powers from a beetle totem, that would not prevent her from being a target of Morlun the Manhunter during the Into the Scarab Verse crisis. She changed her name after this event, during which she met several heroes calling themselves Scarab Woman. She had also learned of her death in several universes where Teddy Parker became the Blue Scarab, which was troubling to her, but in order to take ownership of her fate, to some degree she named herself Ghost Scarab.

Meta backstory
This is fairly simple. I drew Gwen as Gwen Pendragon and decided I wanted to do an amalgam of Ghost Spider who inarguably has one of the coolest costume designs in the history of ever. Frankly, I don’t think that anyone really cared all that much about Gwen Stacy, but during the “Gwen as super heroes” variant cover event, people couldn’t get enough of that costume. Whether I’m right or wrong, it’s what I choose to believe. So, I figured Spidey and Blue Beetle was a good amalgam, and from that I amalgamed Ghost Spider with the Beetle legacy.
