God... I love the books and I love the movie. It was because of Captain Underpants that inspired me to create my very first superhero and OC Dino Man. I love how you did this man. Amazin'.

I remember reading some of the books. Some of them are pure comedy, looking back. Now, there's a movie coming out, I never thought I'd see the day.

Come on... Who even LIKES Captain Underpants??? The main character goes around wearing a dish towel and his underwear, and crazy things happen.

I have a similar problem with Calvin and Hobbes as I do with Captain Underpants. People are just too blinded by nostalgia to point out the problems that'd happen if someone tried to emulate the actions of the "protagonists". I have to give Underpants a pass, because the word "derp" is in his name and there IS a story going on between all the books released so far.

Calvin's a bitter sociopath who I'm convinced is criminally insane, because he honestly can't tell the difference between reality and fantasy. He's convinced his stuffed tiger is real and alive and talks to him, he sometimes actually starts thinking he's a valiant space hero or a brave superhero (which in one incident led him to eat his hall pass), and he claims to have done things no mere mortal can hope to achieve, such as time travel, landing on Mars, becoming a tiger (which are orange, by the way, not red).

Captain Underpants has faced foes before, but at least they actually happened within the story rather than being figments of the "protagonist's" uncontrollable imagination that's literally taken over his brain and laid on the DMT a little thick. His two kid "friends" (keep in mind they used a special ring to trigger him to switch to his "principal" persona via some water, and his "hero" persona is activated by somebody snapping their fingers) join him on some crazy adventures which include toilets from a comic book about Undy's exploits (yes, they write comic books about Undy here), a professor who may possibly have the absolute most hilarious name of all time since the characters in the Orre games not named Michael, Willie, or Lily, aliens who pretend to be the lunch ladies and turn the kids into zombies, a baby, and a parallel world where everybody's morality is reversed. Yes, there were some odd 4th-Wall-breaking moments, like the black kid getting angry at Dav Pilkey for writing a gross description of something (possibly a giant snot monster), some green liquid covering the text on one of the pages, and the author's name getting rewritten to some dumb name like "Gidget HamsterBrains" or something due to the stupid-named professor. Of course, there's a formula: School sucks, kids write a comic book about Undy,Β hibdjvbudjdeba, some weird thing called Flip-O-Rama where you flip the two pages of the book to make it seem like the characters are moving (usually placed in an action scene), something, one chapter is named "Things Get Worse", another chapter is named "How to Make a Long Story Short", thing from the comic book is carried over into the book's story, ????, and then the kids always say, without fail, "Oh no!" "Here we go again!". The stupid-named professor gets renamed to a similar, but equally stupid, name and then rides around in a giant pair of robot pants with a freeze-ray dick. No, I'm not making any of this up, Dav Pilkey actually did this stuff.

Some other stuff he did was some thing about Kung-Fu cavemen fighters from the future, a superpowered infant who fights a giant shit monster and then a giant piss monster, a series about a mouse named after a type of cheese (how clever) who gets himself a huge mech and then uses this mech to destroy weird animals from the different planets of the Solar System besides Earth, obviously (and Pluto, for some reason), even though the animals were complaining about their home planet being shit and wanted to come to Earth to settle there, and something about a doofy dragon.
