Description
This is a sculpture of a tanuki out for a walk. He is 7" tall and made out of Super Scupey with a wire frame. I had been wanting to sculpt a tanuki for a while now but I wanted it to be unlike any tanuki sculptures I had seen before. This guy was the end result. This sculpture encorporates traditional tanuki elements like the sake bottle and the ledger which you see commonly. To be different, and because it would be lots of fun, I've worked in a few other yokai elements.

The blue guy on the right shoulder is a hitodama or spirit flame. The red guy hanging from the walking stick is a chochinobake or haunted lantern. The little guy between the legs is Medama-oyaji from the anime/manga series Gegege no Kitarou by Mizuki Shigeru. As you can see, he's found himself in a bit of a sticky situation. I thought that would be a funny thing to surprise my wife with. She graciously volunteered to help paint it saving me both the trouble of painting and the pressure of living up to her expectations. She did a be-yoo-tiful job.
