Dude this thing is awesome and it's so cool how your wife painted it, sounds like you married the perfect woman for you.

I wonder, is Hitodama the same thing as Will-O-The-Wisp?

Hark! Do I see Sake and an overly large scrotum? Why yes, I do! Which means it could be NOTHING BUT the ever-adored Tanuki! (One of my favourite Youkai.)
This sculpture is wonderful, and really captures the 'spirit' of things very well. The Tanuki is very well sculpted and painted with equal skill, but I think the personalities and forms of the other Youkai make it very interesting all-around... Or it could be the fact Chochinobake and Hitodama are two more of my favorites.
I recognized Medama-oyaji instantly, unlike many, most likely. I'd be in distress too if I looked up, and to the horror of my eye, there was Tanuki-sized equipment above me... Which is another part I like, that you weren't squeamish about showing that rather large part of the Tanuki stories, again, unlike many.
So... That most of what I had to say. Overall, I absolutely love it.

Thanks for the comment!! Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I have been neglecting my DA account (as usual). I truly appreciate the fact that you know so much about this sculpture! My hat would be off to you, that is, if I had a hat. The Medama-oyaji was meant as a joke. You are right that few people get it but that just makes it sweeter when someone does. Thanks again!!

its cool but the wolf's genitals kinda take away from the piece.... maybe if you made a tiny loian cloth that way the tiny figure below him is still looking and ppl can lift it to see whats soo great... neat though

He's a tanuki, though. Not a wolf. And the large, uncovered genitals are a very traditional part of tanuki sculptures. There is a brilliant bit of information on tanuki here: [link]
