do you have any photos of your wing mechanism before the fabric?
I'm really struggling with mine and I'd be ever so grateful!

The frame is aluminum tubing from a clothes drying rack, and the ribs are fiberglass poles.Β

if you don't mind me asking..how did you mold the head? I myself am doing a toothless cosplay and need some advice on the head, of course it won't be as tecnical as yours...aka the mouth oopening and closing. My question is, how did you do the head shape?
π: 0 β©: 1
Toriroz In reply to RecklessGirl [2014-07-06 22:23:43 +0000 UTC]
The head is a base of pink insulation foam with detailing done with upholstery foam. The foam is easily carved with scissors and exactoknifeΒ

the head is mounted to the backpack and wings, no helmet necessary. A head made just with stuffing might get too heavy to hold up unless you have a brace to hold it up. Β The tail is made with upholstery foam. Β I have seen success with pool noodles though. Β

How did you create the harness?

Toriroz In reply to Madskull00 [2014-02-01 22:44:14 +0000 UTC]
The body suit is built off a backpack with chest straps.Β

Madskull00 In reply to Toriroz [2014-02-02 00:40:09 +0000 UTC]
So just a regular backpack? But what did you connect the wings and such too? This is the main problem I am having with with mine. I just can't seem to make a harness that will work and look nicely, yet will allow me to move comfortably.Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Toriroz In reply to Madskull00 [2014-02-02 18:18:28 +0000 UTC]
It's a regular back pack with shoulder and a chest/belly strap. The wing mechanism is on a pipe and that is bolted onto the backpack as well. Β The tail is also strapped to the backpack. Everything is connected. I have read of other people using leg straps as well, like those used for rock climbing harnesses.Β

Madskull00 In reply to Toriroz [2014-02-03 01:19:55 +0000 UTC]
Thanks. But, I'm just confused on how they are connected onto a regular flimsy backpack. How do the pipes stay secure?

Toriroz In reply to Madskull00 [2014-02-03 02:25:04 +0000 UTC]
When the straps of the backpack are sinched all the way tight it is flat against my back and it is mostly the pressure against the back that holds everything in place.Β

Huh. Ok. It just seems hard to imagine pipes being held onto a backpack is all lol.

I used cuddle fleece, but it's isn't very sturdy. Minky would be my second choice as it's very soft and hold details well.Β

How did you attach the head to the rest of the body? In others pictures i have seen, you can easily tell the head and body are two different pieces.

Toriroz In reply to Madskull00 [2013-05-08 01:18:41 +0000 UTC]
At Jafax the head fabric wasn't sewn down, but the foam is glued around the base of the head. The whole wing mechanism and head structure is on a single post through the body.

I have a few questions:
-What fabric did you use for the body and for the wings?
-how did you make the eyes?
-How did you make the stilts and back legs?
-how do you "skin" the body and head?
-Did you add a "neck" under Toothless's head? If so, how did you do it?
--sorry for all the questions lol. I really want to make a Toothless quadsuit, but there are so many things i don't know how to do yet.

Toriroz In reply to Madskull00 [2013-04-30 23:27:27 +0000 UTC]
-Wings are ripstop nylon (kite fabric), and the body is cuddle fleece
-eyes are painted christmas globes
-front legs are crutches cut short with pvc arm braces and back legs are foam shaping.
-lay the fabric on and glue down, trim pieces to fit together and sew. (draping method)
-neck is a tube shape of 1" upholstery foam.
Check the fursuit or quadsuit livejournal for lots of tutorials on mascot type suits.

Do you sew the pieces together by hand, or machine sew them?
-Again, sorry for all the questions lol.
