Once again, this outing was a test run and is by no means a finished suit, so I know there are a lot of details that are left out And I need to get better photos

So much better than the other Toothless quadsuit going around, that ones too shiny.
This one moves and looks so much cuter! Good job c:

I am making my own! One question though... How did you go about creating the fabric pattern? Also know any good foam glues?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Toriroz In reply to DrakonOfTheNight [2014-05-08 22:05:57 +0000 UTC]

On smaller parts like the face and feet I used the duct tape method for patterning, covering the whole section in tape and cutting it until it is flat for the pattern. On large pieces such as the tail and body I used a draping method where I laid the fabric over it and pinned it together to determine where to sew and cut.  My favorite glues of choice are hot glue guns and M-77 spray adhesive.

If I may ask, how did you add the webcam in the head and how did you see out of it? was their like, a screen inside the neck?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Toriroz In reply to Paradoxstep [2013-05-24 21:30:19 +0000 UTC]

The webcam is installed between the eyes and connected to a myvu head display and powered with a portable 12v battery hookup. There is also mesh on the underside of the neck.

Paradoxstep In reply to Toriroz [2013-05-24 21:37:37 +0000 UTC]

I understood the part with the webcam, I just don't understand how you could see out of it.
(Sorry for asking all the questions, I was just so amazed by your toothless quadsuit)

Toriroz In reply to Paradoxstep [2013-05-25 19:55:36 +0000 UTC]

It's connected to a MyVu heads up display which is a visor mount to view the video.

About how much did the entire costume cost?

Toriroz In reply to ExquisiteQwerty [2012-12-14 23:00:46 +0000 UTC]

I didn't keep great track of all the costs, as it was over the course of several years, but it was somewhere in the range of $500 or so

I would die for a tutorial of some kind on how exactly you got the wings to open and close. That alone makes the suit stand above anyone else.

MudgetMakes In reply to Skissored [2013-02-08 05:25:53 +0000 UTC]

I second this request! I think the wings set this quadsuit apart, and are very smooth and look great.

Wow great job! I wish my Toothless Costume was as good as yours! Oh well! Toothless was the very first costume I've ever made so I assumed that it wouldn't be as good as others who've had practice. So I'm sure that I'll be able to learn more as I make more! ^_^ I did get loads better when I made a Sora Lion Form Costume! Also your Zekrom is awesome!!!

Awesome toothless! And if you don't mind me asking, how did you make those scales? My friend is doing a Toothless quadsuit and she's still looking into how to scale it. I'm hoping to give her a few more suggestions/idea's if you told me. Thanks in advance!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Toriroz In reply to WiseLoad43 [2012-08-04 20:15:13 +0000 UTC]

I used black hotglue for the scales, just wait for the gun to heat up and squeeze out little puddles for the scales. Be careful to hold it level so the glue doesn't ooze off balance.

Lolz, I had to take off my Sneasel head so I wouldn't bump into the crowd, I was able to put it back on after we got up further into the shade.

Looking forward to seeing this again at Youmacon!

I just noticed that the ones online are pretty expensive, but I got mine at Home Depot for only $35.

What i can suggest for next time is have an ear piece connected to a walkie talkie that your handler outside can relay information to you like "car" "turn left" that sorta thing.

Yay! And you should! I'm selling artwork there this year, and everyone's been asking if you were coming back, lol. It's supposed to be a little bigger this year, but it IS pretty tiny, so I wouldn't really blame you if you didn't go x.x
