Queen of the Iceni tribe (a British Celtic tribe) from 33 to 60/61 A.D.
She was the one who led the biggest rebellion against Romans, in the history of the island.
Boudica's husband was an "indipendent ruler", sort of an ally of Rome. When he died, he left his kingdom to his two daughters. Unfortunately, ths disn't happen: his will was ignored by the Romans and the kingdom was annexed. According to Tacitus, Boudica was flogged and her daughters raped.

Boudicca jointed many tribes in revolt. They were the biggest army ever exister in the island to send away Romans from British islands. She was the leader.
Cassio Dione describes her this way: "She was a very tall and terrifying woman. She had ferocious eyes and sour voice. A great amount of red hair flew over her hips. As for her clothing, she wore invariably a golden necklace and a multicolored tunic. She covered the whole clothing with a thick mantle, closed with a brooch. When she was talking, she clutched a spear, in order to give fright to whoever was looking at her"

The great rebellion was sadly defeated by the Romans, who were indeed less numerous, but mastered a better war technique.
After the defeat, Boudicca poisoned herself. She didn't want to fall in Romans' hands.

I am drawing 6 famous women from history that died in unfortunate circumstances

I had the idea for a series like this, for a long time. Then, my dearest friend Dara said she was going to do the same thing. I took it as an inspiration, and start my series as well. Of course, Dara's will be fantastic and very original; she has a gift for reimagining things in her uniqe and beautiful style.
Mine will be rather more historical.
