"Autobots, roll out!"

Easily the best known and most recognizable Transformer, Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots, a faction of giant, shape-shifting alien robots from Cybertron, a planet located in the Alpha Centauri system.* Unlike their arch enemies the Decepticons, the Autobots have no interest in conquering Earth, and instead they choose to protect humanity from alien invaders.

As the name implies, Transformers (alternatively: Cybertronians) can shape-shift to disguise themselves as just about any kind of vehicle. Optimus Prime's preferred disguise is a truck.

This version of Optimus Prime is based on how he looks in the modern, live action Transformers movie series.

* Fan theory: The Transformers universe exists an alternate timeline of the Omnibus Universe. The timeline split off during a massive war between the Engineers (from Prometheus) and their robotic creations the Quintessons, billions of years ago. The exact point from which the Transformers timeline split off was a massive battle fought in the orbit of the planet, that ended with the Engineers detonating a weapon so powerful that it created a rift in time, destroying proto-Cybertron and most of the Quintesson armada (the debris of proto-Cybertron reformed into what would later become the homeworld of the Alpha Centaurans from Doctor Who in the main Omnibus timeline, but also Pandora (from Avatar) in an additional offshoot timeline (in that timeline, the Tree of Souls actually grows on the exact point where the Engineers' weapon detonated)).
In the Transformers timeline however, the weapon was never detonated, and the Engineers were defeated.
