Oh those big guys are a lot of work...they live to be about 100 and they can't be passed around to new owners easily so you tend to be stuck with them :3

Yeah, I'm aware of their possible age and their close relationship to their owner, once trust has been formed - but I'd love to try and raise one of them within my ownership, or maybe get one whose former owner died (although gaining their trust might be hard), and I plan on getting old, so why not try and give it a go? lol /swt

I can't really tell whether or not I will live up to my expectations of age, but I want a cockatoo so badly, haha...
I don't have the time for such a partner right now, they need a lot of attention which I cannot provide during my studies, but I want to catch up on that once my exams are through.

How did you end up getting a bird? *curious*

Well I'm very glad that you seem to have done you research about the matter I'm a conservation ecologist so sometimes I also have to deal with wild animals that are being kept as pets and I've seen too many sorry parrots. But if you can provide a safe and loving home for one then go for it

I bought Ryu from a breeder. I made sure she was qualified with plenty of experience before I spoke to her, and of course it took a lot of thought. I've had birds all my life but these guys can get sick because of their liquid diet, so they're not the easiest to care for. Very smart though! His vocabulary increases by the month and he relates words to actions/events/people. He just learned 'no', and he takes great delight in screaming it out at me when I ask him to do something he doesn't want to do
