Albion Basin in the Wasatch Mountains has some of the most significant wildflowers one can see anywhere. With variety of colors, sizes and shapes, the short-lived explosion of color isn't to be missed if you live nearby and can find time to get into the mountains.

It was clear early on that the wind would not be cooperating with me on this evening so I changed strategies. Rather than boosting my ISO and hoping for a wind-less moment with a quicker shutter speed, I decided to try to use the flower's movement in an attempt to enhance the image. I put on my polarizer (which adds a couple of stops of darkness) to slow down my shutter speed, set the aperture to f/18 (to provide max depth of field AND slow down the shutter speed). By doing this I was able to create an image with a shutter speed of about a half second, so what you see here is a 1/2 second in time as these flowers blow in the wind inches from my lens.

I liked the way it turned out! In nature photography it is essential to work with the conditions given to execute on whatever vision you're after. Feel free to ask any questions, and remember to get outdoors when you have opportunities, I'm fully convinced a quiet night away from a city is good for you in many ways. If you haven't been out in awhile try and see if I'm wrong.
