those of you who follow me on tumblr know that I've taken on the task of writing 31 poems throughout the month of May in order to raise funds for National Bail Out. NBO is a Black-led and Black-centered collective that organizes to end pretrial detention, cash bail, and mass incarceration--this is especially important now that being held in petrial detention is a death sentence for people--the disproportionately Black & brown, disabled & mentally ill, and LGBTQ--who are arrested & unable to afford cash bail. you can sponsor me by donating directly to NBO here, & help reach our goal of $1,000: secure.actblue.com/donate/naji…

this is the first poem that I wrote for this project; you can find an image/text description, as well as the other poems I've written so far, at najiapowrimo.tumblr.com/ poems from this project deal with literature, politics, isolation, illness, & being bedbound. they experiment with form, especially sonnet and villanelle forms, & with found poetry from various sources. at the end of the month I'll start cleaning them up for release in pdf format, & I'll send a free copy to anyone who donates to NBO or another bail-out organization & sends me a receipt.
