"Something seems wrong about this..."one of my self portraits from over the summer
summer assignment: do two self portraits, one based off of the style from another artist and one that is influenced by another culture
this is my artist piece, the artist is Roy Litchenstein, I love that man.
I studied his work for months before doing this, and just my luck The Walker had a gallery set up with 10 of his pieces so I got to see some of his work up close, I did many experiments and trial paintings before I did this and then I finally was ready, I bought the canvas cloth, stretcher bars and paint and away I went into the garage
2 and a half weeks. everyday. from about 10 in the morning to 8 at night. everyday. for 2 and a half weeks.
I also never took a shower or changed my clothes during this time, I took my clothes off at night but put on the same outfit the next day...I tried wearing a differnt outfit but it felt like I lost inspiration and it didnt seem right when I did, it was really weird so I went back inside and changed into my painting outfit...hehe, it was a yellow tanktop and my most comfortable jeans, blue socks and my black flat top shoes...and now when I wear this outfit I feel like I should be painting this...its very strange indeed

yeah you must be going to Perpich...I painted that for my senior self portrait project, thats the original painting so it's not blown up

ah how fun! Lichtenstein did a lot of picasso paintings in his comic book style, they're really interesting. Good luck, it sounds like a really fun assignment!

You know that one patch of irregular dots you were complaining about before? I was staring intently at the extra white space around them and realized it looks like a pistol. It's like there is a little gun on your face, it's freakin' me out here Rachel.

I go to an arts high school so right now its up in our gallery, I'll be taking it down on monday and I'll write up a contract for the school and then donate it so it can be hung up permanently...my mom wanted to put it up in our dining room haha I refuse because it would look ridiculous there

no, I want it to be seen by people and be appreciated and I know that the best place for it is at perpich and hopefully it'll inspire a kid or two to do something outside of there comfort zone and to push them to become better artist...that'd be nice.
