Likes: Yorinobu is athletic and enjoys various sports such as Kendō, Hanetsuki and Kemari.
He also likes games like Shōgi and Gomoku because they force him to get in his opponent’s head.
Yorinobu is fond of Traditional Art, with a preference towards Paintings over writing and poetry,
And has a taste for Pickled Vegetables, Lychee Juice, Tamarinds and Water Chestnuts.
Dislikes: Yorinobu prefers to plan ahead and dislikes Unexpected Setbacks and getting Surprised.
He also dislikes when people get in his way or compete with him, and sees them as Rivals and Foes.
As far as Clans go, he dislikes when Kitsune and Uranami hold onto old grudges and blame him for it,
Believing it foolish to blame the innocent for the folly of their elders. He hates being judged wrongly.
Inspirations: Yorinobu has various inspirations,
- It is truly amazing that Asukai-no-Raiden caught a bolt of lightning with his sword, and is determined to perform such an impressive feat with his own blade one day.
- He was inspired by Asuka-no-Kimi’s love and devotion to Raiden, going so far as to end her own life when he had perished. He wishes to love and to be loved by someone in the same, deeply ardourous way.
- He admires the way that Yū rose to the top of the hierarchy, despite his lowly status as a bastard.
- It’s hard not to be impressed by the many accomplishments of Yamato I and his entourage.
- He looks up to Police Chief Yori’s effective policies. Yori is also his namesake.
- He was inspired by Shou’s way of speaking his mind, even if it is what got him killed.
Life Goals: Yorinobu is extremely Ambitious and has a long list of goals, some of which include:
− Become a Jōnin and be praised by his peers for it.
− Enroll in the Shinobi Police Force and attain a respected role within their ranks.
− Earn the respect of his Clan and attain some sort of political or important title.
− Rebuild the Clan’s internal Hierarchy and mend the rift between the Houses.
− Marry into a family that is more respected and prestigious than his own.
− See the Asukai continue to prosper while their enemies fade into insignificance.
− Be acknowledged for a contribution or success no one has achieved before.
Personality:
+ Ambitious | Determined | Honorable | Industrious | Pragmatic | Strong-willed.
− Cunning | Prideful | Stubborn | Temptation | Tunnel Visioned | Unforgiving
Yorinobu is exceptionally Ambitious first and foremost, but he is also tactical and collected.
He prefers to plan ahead before taking unnecessary risks, but is able to adapt when it’s needed.
Somewhat old-fashioned for his age, Yorinobu and tries to live by a Warrior’s code ( Bushidō )
And takes great pride in his heritage and is determined to carve out his own place in history.
Because of this he has a strong appreciation for (quality, not amateur) Artwork and Literature,
believing them the vessels of noteworthy men and what separates commoners from the heroes.
Because Yorinobu aspires to climb the social ladder of the Asukai to a respectable position,
He tends to conform to clan ideals and is rather cautious when it comes to his own reputation.
Though he is a supporter of the main House, he acknowledges the necessity of the Branch House,
And seeks to mend the rift between them. When it comes to interactions with the other Clans,
He also understands the necessity of being diplomatic and polite, even to those he may not like.
In that sense, Yorinobu likely comes off much friendlier and more accepting than he actually is.
But Yorinobu is often faced with a dilemma. He tries to be pragmatic and unrelenting to others,
but struggles when balancing this with his sense of Justice and strong desire to act with Honor.
In the end, he’s human, and finds himself at odds between the idealistic justice that he believes in,
And the temptation of unseemly deeds often required to climb the social hierarchy of the Asukai.
It doesn’t help that he dislikes competition and struggles forgive those who have wronged him,
Which only further tempts him to stoop to nefarious means to put his opposition in their place.
But while he is not adverse to subterfuge and has ample cunning to be an apt manipulator,
He sees this behavior as dishonorable and reserves such desperate acts for dire circumstances.
Perhaps now, when things are at their worst, is the time to take the plunge and change his tactics.
Hard working and determined, Yorinobu would rather make a difference rather than stand idly by,
But while his goals call for an Ambitious Revolution, he wishes to achieve this with Honor intact.
Will Yorinobu achieve his Ambitions? Or fade into obscurity as his parents did? Only Time will tell.
TL;DR Asukai who yearns to rebuild the Clan and is caught between idealized Honor the Clan praises,
And the unscrupulous manipulation the Clan practices. He refuses to sit idly by and fade into obscurity,
But only time will tell if he can hold onto his honor or stoop to manipulation to climb the social hierarchy.
*Bushidō means “Warrior’s Way,” It’s an Archaic term used by the first generation of Asukai to describe codes of ethics.
Backstory:
Yorinobu’s formative years were laden with what many would consider personal hardships,
such as when his father was killed in the Crimson Snow incident, leaving his mother a widow.
Because Yorinobu came from a less auspicious branch, financial support was comparably limited.
While they were better off than most, his mother had to work harder than most Asukai to get by,
And he certainly didn’t grow up as spoiled. It is likely because of this that he tries to be practical,
And why he is generally such a frugal and less judgemental person compared to most Asukai.
His time at the Academy was without incident. He Graduated with average grades for his clan,
And was assigned a Squad and went on early Missions without significant setbacks in his career.
That is, until just a few weeks before the Coming of Age Ceremony when His mother passed away.
Her death was sudden, and cited as Illness. But this made Yorinobu’s coming of age very awkward,
as neither of his parents were able to attend to hand their sword down to him as most families do.
Yorinobu had to bring his sword to the ceremony himself, an act for which he was greatly ridiculed.
The deaths of his parents had a profound effect on Yorinobu, but not in the way you’d think.
Much of Yorinobu’s ambitions and intense desire to succeed came about after his mother’s death.
But where many would mourn the loss of a parent, instead it fed Yorinobu’s desire to be stronger,
ever haunted by the thought of how weak his parents must have been to perish so unremarkably.
Yorinobu is determined not to suffer the same fate and refuses to just fade into shameful obscurity,
He wishes to become a shinobi of worth to the clan, regardless of his branch and no matter the cost.
