I am not anti digital (obviously) and I'm not totally anti CGI -but what ever happened to MUPPETS, PUPPETS, animatronics, stunts, real explosions, real cars, real scenery, elaborate sets, trained live animals, costumes, lighting fx.... I just think the medium of CGI in films today is excessive, and when a CGI lifelike being is in action film...it just, erm, kind of stands out....So I made up UMGPE, Unite Movie Goers for Practical Effects. Practical Effects = those MAGICAL, wonderful, effects that mankind used to make movies without CGI back in ye old times....::sigh:: Think about the greats like the original Star Wars or anything with the magic touch of Jim Henson.
And...in Gone With the Wind they actually burned down the old set of King Kong for the immortal "buring of Atlanta" scene...
Okay, I need to stop ranting.

I used to think CGI was annoying, then I realized it's not so much the animation or effects you use as much as what you use them for.

I don't hate CGi (I used to, I just strongly prefer alternate methods of special effects. The "Burning of Atlanta" scene in "Gone with the Wind-1939" will be far more real than any CGI explosion or fire.
Some of my favorite movies are CGI heavy...especially "UP" (brilliant story AND use of CGI).
I just don't like the over abundance of CGI or poorly rendered CGI. I'm still not a fan of CGI characters in live-action movies. It's obvious that the character is a cartoon and takes me out of the world the movie is trying to establish. The costumes, masks, and actors of Star Wars will always be more magical than any CGI character.

I agree 100%. I like CGI but all those CGI movies coming out in theatres are too numerous and it makes me feel that 2D films are deemed as "a waste of time. But thank god for The Simpsons Movie and that new Disney movie about a black princess.
