Description A more in-depth study based on feedback from the previous post.  As small sections of scale impressions have been described across various areas of the body, and taking into account the tropical nature of the beast's environment, I've gone with a conservative integumentary system.  The scales themselves are proportionally very small, and would've made the creature seem leathery in life, though it has also been pointed out that it may still be possible that some feathers may have grown between them, which is what is shown here.  Overall quite similar to modern Elephants, coated in a fine layer of sparse filaments that wouldn't have been very noticeable unless one were (uncomfortably) up close.  The mottled countershade pattern of greenish browns would serve as effective camouflage in the forested river valleys of eastern Laramidia.  Many Tyrannosaur skulls show signs of scaring believed to have been inflicted by other Tyrannosaurs.  These large predators certainly would've required large territories to sustain themselves, and confrontations over mates would've also sometimes lead to violence.  A deep throat pouch (which I've heard there may be evidence for in a Mongolian tyrannosaur) and near-unparalleled sense of smell would've allowed them to remain in contact from afar usually.  Descriptions of Daspletosaurus skull features suggest a covering of armored yet sensitive scales and pits along the face, which makes sense as these animals would've both fought and explored their environment primarily with their mouths.  As a purely speculative feature, the yellow-red areas around the eyes and throat, normally more subdued, are able to change slightly in hue and intensity for interspecies display purposes and in accordance with the creature's emotions, similar to modern Cassowaries.

So, what do you think?

I have to agree, the colors look perfect if that's possible. But I also love the stripes and mane on your more speculative version.

Thanks.  I wanted to make something both beautiful and naturally practical, like the patterns of big cats, snakes, or monitor lizards.

It certainly deserves its rank among the greatest predators of all time.

Nice! I have had an idea! What do you think of colored skull Island manageries?

I've thought of it, but for now at least I think keeping them black and white would help distinguish them from larger entries.

I love it! You're almost spot on with how T. Rex works! Very much how I envision what the animal would look like in real life.

I'm glad it looks plausible.

It really does! I'm not kidding you. The color scheme would make sense for a large reptilian predator having to rely on the jungle cover for ambush. That's what T-rex would have done 90% of the time.

Pretty cool take on old T-Rex.
